La inscripción del margen inferior izquierdo reza: «Peint par Guido Reni.» Reni, uno de los máximos exponentes de la escuela boloñesa del Barroco, repitió este binomio de rostros patéticos en numerosas composiciones que alcanzaron un enorme éxito popular y comercial paneuropeo, extendiéndose durante siglos a través de copias y estampas de reproducción.
The inscription on the lower left margin reads: «Painted by Guido Reni.» Reni, one of the leading exponents of the Bolognese Baroque school, repeated this pairing of pathetic faces in numerous compositions that achieved enormous pan-European popular and commercial success, spreading for centuries through copies and reproduction prints.

Grabado al buril (talla dulce) sobre papel litográfico o verjurado (según el grosor y marcas de agua de la hoja física). Destaca el fino modelado de las carnaciones mediante tramas cruzadas y líneas concéntricas que imitan la limpia transición lumínica y el claroscuro característicos del pintor boloñés.
Engraving on lithographic or laid paper (depending on the thickness and watermarks of the physical sheet). The fine modeling of the flesh tones stands out, achieved through crosshatching and concentric lines that imitate the clean transition of light and chiaroscuro characteristic of the Bolognese painter.
