Franciscus de Andrada Fue un destacado jurisconsulto Portugues y profesor de derecho en la Universidad de Coimbra. Su profundo conocimiento de las leyes le llevó a ocupar cargos de gran relevancia en la administración y la judicatura portuguesa.
Desempeñó un papel crucial como diplomático y embajador en un momento complejo de la historia de Portugal, la Restauración de la Independencia tras el dominio de la Monarquía Hispánica. Fue Plenipotenciario Extraordinario de la Corona portuguesa en los Tratados de Paz de Münster Paz de Westfalia, hacia 1648), donde negoció y defendió los intereses internacionales del reino restaurado de Juan IV de Portugal.
Franciscus de Andrada was a prominent Portuguese jurist and law professor at the University of Coimbra. His profound knowledge of the law led him to hold significant positions within the Portuguese administration and judiciary.
He played a crucial role as a diplomat and ambassador during a complex period in Portuguese history: the Restoration of Independence following the rule of the Spanish Monarchy. He served as Extraordinary Plenipotentiary for the Portuguese Crown at the Peace of Münster (part of the Peace of Westphalia, c. 1648), where he negotiated and defended the international interests of the restored kingdom of John IV of Portugal.

El personaje viste indumentaria de la época del siglo XVII, con un cuello de encaje (golilla o cuello plano), jubón ricamente bordado, barba y bigote prominentes, y una medalla o insignia pendiente de una cadena al cuello. La técnica es un grabado calcográfico caracterizado por líneas entrecruzadas (cross-hatching) para lograr las sombras y los volúmenes dentro de un marco ovalado y un pedestal inferior decorado con rollos y volutas.
The figure wears 17th-century attire, featuring a lace collar (a *golilla* or flat collar), a richly embroidered doublet, a prominent beard and mustache, and a medal or badge hanging from a chain around the neck. The technique is an intaglio print characterized by cross-hatching used to create shadow and volume, set within an oval frame and a base decorated with scrolls and volutes.

Anselm van Hulle (Gante, 1594 - 1665). Fue un pintor flamenco enviado oficialmente al Congreso de Münster (durante las negociaciones de la Paz de Westfalia) para retratar a los diferentes diplomáticos y plenipotenciarios reunidos allí, entre los cuales se encontraba el propio Francisco de Andrade Leitão.
He was a Flemish painter officially sent to the Congress of Münster (during the negotiations for the Peace of Westphalia) to portray the various diplomats and plenipotentiaries gathered there, among whom was Francisco de Andrade Leitão himself.

La estampa fue realizada durante el desarrollo de los trascendentales congresos de paz en Münster y Osnabrück, que pusieron fin a la Guerra de los Treinta Años y a la Guerra de los Ochenta Años, y donde se ratificó la consolidación diplomática de la restauración portuguesa.
The print was created during the momentous peace congresses in Münster and Osnabrück, which brought an end to the Thirty Years' War and the Eighty Years' War, and where the diplomatic consolidation of the Portuguese Restoration was ratified.
