It depicts a three-quarter bust of Don Carlos of Austria (1545–1568), the ill-fated son of Philip II. The Infante wears the classic noble attire of the late 16th-century Spanish Habsburg court: a stiff white ruff (*lechuguilla*) fitted around the neck, a slashed doublet, and a fur-lined overgarment, while displaying the chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece across his chest.
Upper Section:
An architectural crowning element featuring a central oval flanked by two allegorical figures of Fame (winged female figures blowing trumpets). Sides:
Columns or pilasters composed of military trophies (armor, helmets, shields, pikes, drums, and flags intertwined with laurel wreaths). Lower Section:
A pedestal cartouche for text, flanked by allegorical figures or captives on the plinth, accompanied by cannons, ammunition, and other military supplies.
