La escena es una densa composición alegórica del Barroco tardío/Rococó temprano, enmarcada por un pesado cartucho arquitectónico adornado con guirnaldas florales y un grotesco masquerón en la base.

Grupo izquierdo (Tiempo y Verdad/Historia):

Una figura alada y barbuda que representa a Cronos (el Padre Tiempo) se yergue sobre dos alegorías femeninas sentadas. Una de ellas probablemente sea Veritas (la Verdad), dado su estado desnudo, siendo desvelada o registrada.

Grupo derecho (Estudios y Aprendizaje):

Una figura femenina sentada, posiblemente Minerva/Atenea (diosa de la sabiduría) o una alegoría de Scientia/Historia, escribe concentradamente en un gran folio. Un putto flota sobre ella sosteniendo una plomada o péndulo, simbolizando la precisión y la medida.

Plano central:

Al fondo, tres putti o amorini estudian libros abiertos esparcidos por el suelo, señalando hacia un monumento de piedra rústica o altar bajo un sol/estrella radiante.

The scene is a dense, late-Baroque/Early Rococo allegorical composition framed within a heavy architectural cartouche adorned with floral festoons and a grotesque masqueron at the base.

Left Group (Time and Truth/History):

A winged, bearded figure representing Chronos (Father Time) stands over two seated female allegories. One is likely Veritas (Truth), given her unclothed state, being unveiled or recorded.

Right Group (Studias & Learning):

A seated female figure, possibly Minerva/Athena (goddess of wisdom) or an allegory of Scientia/Historia, writes intently in a large folio. A putto hovers above holding a plumb line or pendulum, symbolizing precision and measure.

Center Ground:

In the background, three putti or amorini study open books scattered on the ground, pointing toward a rustic stone monument or altar under a radiant sun/star.

Robert Coates, Esq. (1772–1848). Célebre actor aficionado conocido por su ostentoso vestuario y sus extravagantes representaciones, autofinanciadas, de papeles shakespearianos (sobre todo Romeo) en Bath y Covent Garden.

Retrato de medio cuerpo de Robert Coates («Romeo Coates»), mirando ligeramente hacia la izquierda con una mirada de tres cuartos. Viste una corbata blanca alta anudada al cuello, una chaqueta cruzada y un abrigo con un grueso cuello de piel. Su mano derecha descansa cerca de la cintura, parcialmente extendida. El fondo presenta un degradado tonal texturizado y punteado.

Europa Magazine fue una publicación aparecida en Londres entre  1782 y 1826 ofreciendo información de personalidades notables del Reino Unido y Europa, todo ello acompañado de  un bello grabado del personaje y realizado en buril, en ello colaboraron algunos de los grabadores Ingleses mas reputados del momento.

Europa Magazine was a publication published in London between 1782 and 1826 offering information on notable personalities of the United Kingdom and Europe, all accompanied by a beautiful engraving of the character and made in burin, in it collaborated some of the most reputable English engravers of the time.
