ANALISIS ICONOGRÁFICO / ICONOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS :
La estampa ofrece la típica interpretación idealizada de la época barroca sobre una de las siete maravillas del mundo antiguo. Muestra al Coloso con atributos helenísticos y de deidad solar (coronado de laureles y rayos), sosteniendo un cetro en una mano y un pebetero humeante en la otra a modo de faro, con las piernas abiertas sobre el puerto de Rodas mientras los navíos pasan por debajo, una concepción iconográfica mítica muy difundida en los siglos XVI y XVII.
The print offers a typical idealized interpretation from the Baroque period of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. It shows the Colossus with Hellenistic and solar deity attributes (crowned with laurels and rays), holding a scepter in one hand and a smoking brazier in the other like a lighthouse, with its legs spread over the port of Rhodes as ships pass beneath it—a mythical iconographic conception widely disseminated in the 16th and 17th centuries.
