Agustin de Hipona o San Agustín, obispo de Hipona fue un importante pensador, filosofo y teólogo cristiano junto a San Jerónimo, San Gregorio y San Ambrosio, es considerado uno de los padres de la Iglésia Católica y es venerado cómo Santo en la mayoría de Iglesias Cristianas.

Augustine of Hippo, or Saint Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, was an important Christian thinker, philosopher, and theologian. Along with Saint Jerome, Saint Gregory, and Saint Ambrose, he is considered one of the fathers of the Catholic Church and is venerated as a Saint in most Christian Churches.

Sostenido en la mano derecha elevada hacia la luz celestial, referente a la famosa pasaje de sus Confesiones ("Nos hiciste, Señor, para ti y nuestro corazón está inquieto hasta que descanse en ti") y a la devoción y celo teológico.

Libro:

Sostenido en la mano izquierda, símbolo de sus prolíficos escritos teológicos y su condición de Doctor de la Iglesia.

Indumentaria episcopal:

Mitra adornada con una cruz, pectoral visible sobre el pecho y capa pluvial decorada con cenefas bordadas.

Composición y simbolismo:

Luz divina:

Rayos rectilíneos que descienden desde el ángulo superior izquierdo hacia la cabeza y el corazón del santo, simbolizando la iluminación divina y la gracia.

Inscripción emblemática:

En el ángulo inferior izquierdo aparece un medallón circular con la filacteria "VNA veritas" ("Una sola verdad"), referente a la búsqueda agustiniana de la verdad absoluta frente a las herejías de su tiempo.

Escenografía:

Entorno mixto que combina la solidez de una estructura arquitectónica de sillería (símbolo de la Iglesia) con un paisaje de fondo marítimo y vegetación.

ULYSSES IN VIRCE'S PALACE

INTERPRETACION :

Ulises en el Palacio de Circe es un grabado del siglo XVII que se puede interpretar en cuatro acontecimientos o planos distintos, el primer plano representa el encuentro del Dios Hermes con el héroe Ulises quien le entrega una hierba que lo protegerá contra la hechicera Circe, en segundo plano a la izquierda Circe presenta la copa envenenada a Ulises sentados junto una mesa con una columna atrás, el tercer plano en el centro Circe arrodillada pide perdón a Ulises al pie de una esclarea y en cuarto plano a la derecha en un lateral al fin de la escalera Circe la hechicera comparte el lecho con el legendario Ulises.

INTERPRETATION :

Ulysses in the Palace of Circe is an engraving of the XVII century that can be interpreted in four events or planes, the first plane presents the encounter of the God Hermes with the hero Ulysses who gives him an herb that will protect him against the sorceress Circe, in the second plane to the left Circe presents the poisoned cup to Ulysses seated at a table with a column behind, the third plane in the center Circe kneeling asks for forgiveness to Ulysses at the foot of a sclera and in the fourth plane to the right at the end of the staircase Circe the sorceress shares the bed with the legendary Ulysses.

Los frescos fueron realizados por Nicollo de L'labate entre 1559 y 1560 para decorar la suntuosa sala de Ulises del Castillo de Fontaineblau bajo las instruciones del decorador Francisco Primaticcio, y el auspicio de la mecenas de las artes Catalina de Médicis, sus pinturas fueron destruidas durante el saqueo y posterior incendio del palacio de Fontanieblau durante la revolución francesa por lo cual solo nos queda el testimonio de los grabados de Theoddor van Thulden realizados a comienzos del Siglo XVII.

The frescoes were realized by Nicollo del'Labate between 1559 and 1560 to decorate the sumptuous room of Ulysses of the Castle of Fontaineblau under the instructions of the decorator Francesco Primaticcio, and the patronage of Catherine de Medici, his paintings were destroyed during the looting and subsequent fire of the palace of Fontanieblau during the French Revolution, so we only have the testimony of Theoddor van Thulden's engravings made in the early seventeenth century.
