Ernst Von Isenburg - Grenzau fue un noble alemán, diplomático y general al servicio del Rey de España en especial durante la guerra de los treinta años y el último representante del linaje Isenburg - Grenzau.

Ernst Von Isenburg-Grenzau was a German nobleman, diplomat and general in the service of the King of Spain, particularly during the Thirty Years' War, and the last representative of the Isenburg-Grenzau lineage.

El Retrato:
Ernesto aparece de medio busto, girado tres cuartos a la derecha, enmarcado en una orla ovalada sobre un fondo rectilíneo tramado. Viste una armadura de placas decorada y una lechuguilla (ruff) de encaje alrededor del cuello, moda característica del primer tercio del siglo XVII en el ámbito germánico e hispano-flamenco. Porta una banda militar cruzada sobre el pecho y sostiene con su mano derecha el bastón de mando o de general.

The Portrait:
Ernest appears in a half-bust portrait, turned three-quarters to the right, framed by an oval border against a patterned, rectilinear background. He wears decorated plate armor and a lace ruff around his neck, a fashion characteristic of the first third of the 17th century in the Germanic and Hispano-Flemish worlds. He wears a military sash across his chest and holds a baton or general's staff in his right hand.

Johann Heindrick Faber fue un teologo y pastor luterano originario de Weinsberg, Alemania El retrato lo muestra en sus funciones en la iglesia de San Ulrich (S. Ulrich) y como Senior del Ministerio de la Confesión de Augsburgo (Senioris dess Ministerij A.C. in Augsburg).

Johann Heindrick Faber was a Lutheran theologian and pastor originally from Weinsberg, Germany. The portrait shows him in his duties at St. Ulrich's Church (S. Ulrich) and as Senior of the Augsburg Confession Ministry (Senioris dess Ministerij A.C. in Augsburg).

Talla dulce o buril combinada con aguafuerte para las zonas de sombreado del ropaje y el rico marco ornamental. El uso del buril es evidente en la nitidez y limpieza de las líneas de los textos latinos y alemanes, así como en la precisa trama cruzada del fondo que resalta la efigie.

Engraving or burin work combined with etching for the shaded areas of the clothing and the rich ornamental frame. The use of the burin is evident in the sharpness and clarity of the lines of the Latin and German texts, as well as in the precise cross-hatching of the background that highlights the effigy.

ICONOGRAFIA / ICONOGRAPHY :

Johann Heindrick Faber :
Aparece de medio cuerpo, en posición de tres cuartos hacia la derecha pero dirigiendo su mirada fija hacia el espectador. Viste la indumentaria eclesiástica luterana característica del siglo XVII: la sobria sotana o Schaube oscura y una prominente lechuguilla o gola blanca (Gekröse) rodeando el cuello. Sus manos sostienen un pequeño libro (probablemente las Sagradas Escrituras o un devocionario), reforzando su estatus de erudito y pastor de las almas.
En la esquina superior izquierda del marco interno del retrato se observa una pequeña cartela o recuadro con la inscripción "Aet. 74. A° —" (abreviatura de Aetatis suae 74), lo que indica que Faber contaba con 74 años de edad al momento en que se plasmó o preparó su efigie.

Johann Heindrick Faber:
Is depicted in a half-length portrait, three-quarter view to the right, but with his gaze directed straight at the viewer. He wears the characteristic Lutheran ecclesiastical vestments of the 17th century: the sober dark cassock or Schaube and a prominent white ruff or collar (Gekröse) around his neck. His hands hold a small book (probably the Holy Scriptures or a devotional book), reinforcing his status as a scholar and shepherd of souls.
In the upper left corner of the portrait's inner frame, a small cartouche or inscription reads "Aet. 74. A° —" (an abbreviation of Aetatis suae 74), indicating that Faber was 74 years old when his likeness was created.
