The Shield (Escutcheon):
Features a central Sun in His Splendour (a human-faced sun surrounded by alternating straight and wavy rays).
Supporters:
Two greyhounds (or hounds) rampant or combatant, collared, flanking and holding up the shield.
Crest:
Atop the barred tilting helmet (typical of nobility or patrician families) sits an elaborate torse and mantling, surmounted by a crest featuring the head and neck of a hound matching the supporters.
Inscription:
The banderole at the top reads "SENZA SVIARSI MAI" (Italian for "Without ever going astray" or "Without ever losing the path").
Context of the Motto:
This motto is strongly associated with fidelity, constancy, and precision—ideals frequently symbolized by hunting hounds (which track a scent without deviation). Historically, this particular Italian device is linked to noble families or literary academies of the Renaissance/Baroque periods.
The Monogram:
Below the heraldic composition is a complex, symmetrically intertwined calligraphic monogram (an interlaced cipher). It appears to repeat or mirror letters; it can be read as a stylized "B B" or "P B" interlinked with flourishes.
The monogram is flanked by stylized palm fronds or quills, resting within a decorative border that frames the entire composition.

SVIARSI. 18th century engraving
JEAN GERSON. 18th century engraving
Grabado del Siglo XVIII
The composition utilizes a classic late-Baroque allegorical arrangement at the base of the oval frame:
The Subject:
Gerson is depicted in profile-three-quarters, wearing his academic/clerical robes. His expressive, intense gaze reflects his historical reputation as a passionate reformer and intellectual powerhouse during the Western Schism.
The Inkwell and Quill (Left):
Placed atop a manuscript or ledger, these elements emphasize his prolific output as a writer, canonist, and mystical theologian.
The Dog (Center-Bottom):
A traditional symbol of fidelity (fides), representing his unyielding faithfulness to the Church and the University of Paris.
The Cap and Robe (Bottom Left):
The heavy academic chaperon or doctor's cap resting on the ledge denotes his status as a Doctor of Theology.
The Armorial Emblem (Right):
A shield featuring a personified Sun in splendor illuminating a crescent moon and stars. This celestial motif directly references Gerson's preferred mystical imagery and his coat of arms (frequently incorporating stars, the moon, and a winged heart to symbolize Sursum Corda—"Lift up your hearts").
