Arnoul de Carintia fue Rey de la Francia Oriental, de Lotaringia y Emperador Carolingio de Occidente.

Arnoul of Carinthia was King of Eastern France, of Lotaringia and Carolingian Emperor of the West.

ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY :

El emperador carolingio aparece representado de perfil, mirando hacia la derecha, estilizado de forma anacrónica al estilo de un emperador romano: con una corona de laurel atada con una cinta y un paludamentum clásico (manto militar) sujeto al hombro con un broche de fíbula. Este tipo de retrato idealizado y clasicista era habitual en las series de grabados franceses del siglo XVIII que documentaban a los gobernantes europeos, priorizando un linaje real noble y estandarizado sobre la veracidad histórica (ya que no existían retratos contemporáneos de Arnulfo).

The Carolingian emperor is depicted in profile facing right, stylized anachronistically in the manner of a Roman Emperor—complete with a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon and a classical paludamentum (military cloak) fastened at the shoulder with a fibula brooch. This classicizing idealized portrait type was standard practice in 18th-century French print series documenting European rulers, prioritizing a noble, standardized royal lineage over genuine historical accuracy (as no contemporary portraits of Arnulf existed).

Francisco Sforza fue uno de los personajes mas notables y geniales de la Italia del Siglo XV, su gran intuición, astucia, diplomacia y sagacidad le valieron ascender casi de la nada al Ducado de Milán, fue el fundador del linaje Sforza.

Francisco Sforza he was one of the most remarkable and brilliant characters of 15th century Italy, his great institution, astuteness, diplomacy, and shrewdness made him rise almost from nothing to the Duchy of Milan, he was the founder of The Sforza lineage.

ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY :

Estilo del retrato:

El duque aparece representado de perfil derecho, una elección iconográfica fuertemente inspirada en la numismática romana clásica y las medallas renacentistas (como las de Pisanello). Se le muestra con la cabeza rapada, vistiendo una gorguera/armadura de placas y una pesada cadena sobre el pecho, lo que enfatiza su origen como poderoso condotiero (capitán mercenario) convertido en soberano.

Enmarcado:

El retrato está enmarcado en un marco ovalado moldeado que imita la piedra (trampantojo), sobre un pedestal o zócalo clasicista. El fondo dentro del óvalo presenta un denso y fino sombreado horizontal combinado con sombreado cruzado para crear profundidad y contraste, realzando el perfil.

Portrait Style:
The Duke is depicted in strict right profile, an iconographical choice heavily inspired by classical Roman coinage and Renaissance medals (such as those by Pisanello). He is shown with a shaved head, wearing a plate gorget/armor and a heavy chain across his chest, emphasizing his origin as a powerful condottiero (mercenary captain) turned sovereign.
Framing:
The portrait is enclosed within a molded oval stone-like frame (trompe-l'œil), resting upon a classicist pedestal or plinth. The background within the oval features dense, fine horizontal hatching mixed with cross-hatching to create depth and contrast, making the profile pop.

Guillermo II de Baviera, Conde de Holanda y Zelanda como Guillermo VI, Duque de Baviera - Straubing y Conde de Henao y Señor de Frisia, participo en las cruzadas balticas con los caballeros teutones y tomo parta en las guerras contra los Ingleses a favor de Carlos V de Francia, fue un gran aficiondo a los torneos.

William II of Bavaria, Count of Holland and Zeeland as William VI, Duke of Bavaria - Straubing and Count of Hainaut and Lord of Friesland, participated in the Baltic crusades with the Teutonic knights and took part in the wars against the English in favor of Charles V of France, was a great fan of tournaments.

Retrato:

El conde aparece representado con una armadura de placas idealizada, de estilo tardomedieval, con un yelmo de torneo de visera abierta rematado con una pluma de avestruz, mirando de perfil de tres cuartos hacia la izquierda.

Heráldica:

El escudo central divide el texto del título y muestra el clásico escudo cuartelado de la Casa de Baviera-Straubing-Holanda.

The Count is depicted in a idealized, retrofitted late-medieval plate armor with an open-visored tournament helm topped with an ostrich plume, looking in three-quarters profile to the left.

Los grabadores franceses del siglo XVIII, como Flipart, reutilizaron y adaptaron estos modelos históricos neerlandeses para ediciones ilustradas de gran calidad.

Petrus Scriverius or Pieter Schrijver.

Scriverius was a renowned 17th-century Dutch historian and collector who owned or documented the portraits and original iconography of the former Counts of Holland. 18th-century French engravers, such as Flipart, reused and adapted these historical Dutch models for high-quality illustrated editions.
