Portrait Type:

Half-length, three-quarter view facing right, framed within an oval banner (trompe-l'œil stone motif).

Clerical Habit:

The sitter wears the simple dark collarless cassock (soprana) typical of the Society of Jesus during the 17th century, emphasizing humility and austere monastic discipline.

Physicality & Expression:

Features deep-set eyes, prominent facial lines, and short-cropped gray hair, rendered with realistic, non-idealized Baroque portraiture conventions to reflect age and wisdom.

Central Emblem:

The lower cartouche prominently displays the official IHS Monogram (the Christogram adopted by Saint Ignatius of Loyola), topped with a cross and resting above the three nails of the Passion, signifying absolute devotion to the Jesuit order.

Textual Framing:

The surrounding Latin inscriptions function as an official memorial text, explicitly linking his identity, origin (Genoa), leadership tenure (11th General), and exact biographical milestones.
