Julius Alberonus o Giuli Alberoni fue un Cardenal Italiano consejero de Felipe V de España y primer ministro entre 1715 y 1719, a su vez fue protector de las artes y las letras, a su muerte acaecida en Piacensa en 1752 dejo toda su fortuna a su sobrino incluida su colección de tapices y pinturas salvo  600000 ducados que se destinó para la fundación del colegio Alberoni, institución que aun existe y en cuya capilla esta enterrado.

Julius Alberonus was an Italian cardinal, advisor to Philip V of Spain and prime minister between 1715 and 1719. He was also a patron of the arts and letters. Upon his death in Piacenza in 1752, he left his entire fortune to his nephew, including his collection of tapestries and paintings, except for 600,000 ducats, which were earmarked for the founding of the Alberoni College, an institution that still exists today and in whose chapel he is buried

• Formato:

• Retrato de busto, de tres cuartos hacia la izquierda con la mirada al espectador, inscrito en un óvalo que descansa sobre un pedestal de sillería fingida.

• Indumentaria:

• Viste el hábito eclesiástico propio de su dignidad, destacando el cuello plano (rabat) blanco ribeteado y la botonadura central del abrigo o sotana. Luce la característica peluca empolvada de la época borbónica.

• Estilo:

• Empleo pulcro del buril con tallas cruzadas regulares para definir los volúmenes del rostro y el sombreado del fondo del óvalo, siguiendo las convenciones de la escuela de retrato francesa del Grand Siècle y la Regencia.

• Format:

• Bust portrait, three-quarter view facing left, looking directly at the viewer, set within an oval resting on a pedestal of simulated stonework.
  Clothing:

• He wears the ecclesiastical habit befitting his rank, notably the flat, white, fringed collar (rabat) and the central button placket of the coat or cassock. He sports the characteristic powdered wig of the Bourbon era.
  Style:

• The portrait demonstrates the meticulous use of the burin with regular cross-hatching to define the volumes of the face and the shading of the oval background, following the conventions of the French portrait school of the Grand Siècle and the Regency period.

Charles de Marguetel de Saint-Denis, señor de Saint-Évremond (1613–1703) fue un célebre escritor, filósofo libertino y crítico literario francés del siglo XVII, conocido por su espíritu epicúreo y sus estrechos lazos con figuras como la cortesana y escritora Ninon de Lenclos.

Charles de Marguetel de Saint-Denis, Lord of Saint-Évremond (1613–1703) was a celebrated 17th-century French writer, libertine philosopher, and literary critic, known for his Epicurean spirit and his close ties with figures such as the courtesan and writer Ninon de Lenclos.

ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY :

El retratado aparece de tres cuartos, girado hacia la derecha y mirando al espectador. Lleva su característico gorro (que le cubre la cabeza debido a su famosa aversión a las pelucas) y una túnica forrada de piel con una corbata sencilla. Su rasgo facial más distintivo —el pequeño bulto o arruga entre las cejas— está representado con realismo, en consonancia con su iconografía icónica (capturada originalmente en retratos del natural por artistas como Parmentier).

The sitter is shown in three-quarter view turned to the right, looking toward the viewer. He wears his characteristic skullcap (covering his head due to his famous aversion to wigs) and a fur-lined robe with a plain cravat. His notable facial feature—the small growth or wen between his eyebrows—is realistically rendered, consistent with his iconic iconography (originally captured in life portraits by artists like Parmentier).

• El retrato:

• Muestra a Saint-Évremond a una edad avanzada dentro de un marco ovalado, vistiendo indumentaria de época con un cuello o ribete de piel y un gorro.

• La cartela (filacteria):

• Una cinta plegada que identifica al personaje con el texto: "Charles Marquetel de S.t Denis Chevalier Seig.r de S.t Evremont, né et décédé à Londres le 9.me n.bre 1703 âgé de 94 ans" (aunque según los registros históricos modernos, nació en Normandía y falleció en septiembre de 1703 a los 89 o 90 años, la estampa refleja los datos manejados en su época).

El epigrama:

En la parte inferior, sobre un pedestal, se incluye un poema en francés que elogia su filosofía de vida y su carácter intelectual, vinculándolo directamente con el pensamiento de Epicuro:

" Se librant au penchant qu'jinspire la nature St. Evremont cet esprit fin Digne succefseur d'Epicure Vecut dans les plaisirs et mourut sans chagrin "

The portrait:

It shows Saint-Évremond in his old age within an oval frame, wearing period clothing with a fur collar or trim and a cap.

The cartouche (phylactery):

A folded ribbon that identifies the subject with the text: "Charles Marquetel de S.t Denis Chevalier Seig.r de S.t Evremont, né et décédé à Londres le 9.me n.bre 1703 âgé de 94 ans" (although according to modern historical records, he was born in Normandy and died in September 1703 at the age of 89 or 90, the print reflects the information available at the time).

The epigram:

At the bottom, on a pedestal, is a poem in French that praises his philosophy of life and his intellectual character, directly linking him to the thought of Epicurus.
