Enrique IV de Castilla fue hijo de Juan II y Maria de Aragón y a su vez hermano paterno de Isabel la Católica, fue rey de Castilla desde 1454 hasta su muerte en 1474.

El retrato se presenta en un formato editorial francés clásico de la época de la Ilustración: un retrato de medio cuerpo enmarcado en un marco ovalado arquitectónico, que descansa sobre un pedestal de piedra estructurado que contiene el epitafio histórico.

Europa Magazine fue una publicación aparecida en Londres entre  1782 y 1826 ofreciendo información de personalidades notables del Reino Unido y Europa, todo ello acompañado de  un bello grabado del personaje y realizado en buril, en ello colaboraron algunos de los grabadores Ingleses mas reputados del momento.

Europa Magazine was a publication published in London between 1782 and 1826 offering information on notable personalities of the United Kingdom and Europe, all accompanied by a beautiful engraving of the character and made in burin, in it collaborated some of the most reputable English engravers of the time.

Michel del Hospital fue un escritor, jurista, poeta, canciller y embajador de  Francia en el concilio de trento .

Michel of the Hospital was a French  writer, jurist and poet ambasador at council de trento of treen between 1560 and 1573, he was chancellor of france.

Sujeto:

Michel de l'Hôpital, de pie, de tres cuartos, mirando hacia la derecha. Se le representa con su túnica magistral formal y larga, ribeteada de piel, reflejo de su alto cargo judicial. Sostiene un documento o petición doblada en la mano derecha y su tradicional gorro cancilleriano (bonnet carré) en la izquierda, que mantiene baja. Luce su característica barba larga y ondulada.

Fondo:

La figura se sitúa sobre un fondo de trama cruzada densa y muy regular, un rasgo estilístico característico de las series de retratos franceses de mediados del siglo XVIII destinadas a volúmenes históricos.

Michel de l'Hôpital, standing in a three-quarter view facing right. He is depicted in his formal, long magisterial robes trimmed with fur, reflecting his high judicial office. He holds a folded document or petition in his right hand and holds his traditional chancellor's cap (bonnet carré) in his lowered left hand. He is shown with his iconic long, flowing beard. 

 Background: 

The figure is set against a highly regular, dense, grid-like cross-hatched background, a stylistic hallmark of mid-18th-century French portrait series intended for historical volumes.

El grabado presenta una característica estructura formal de la escuela de Augsburgo de finales del siglo XVII, con un encuadre ovalado que descansa sobre un pedestal liso o repisa (común en los frontispicios de la época), prestando especial atención al detalle del modelado de la barba y los pliegues de la indumentaria académica (Schaube).

The engraving features a characteristic formal structure of the Augsburg school of the late 17th century, with an oval frame resting on a plain pedestal or shelf (common in the frontispieces of the period), paying special attention to the detail of the modeling of the beard and the folds of the academic clothing (Schaube).
