Iconografía y Atributos Simbólicos
Narrativa Central:

Iconography & Symbolic Attributes

Core Narrative:
The Crowning with Thorns (Christ Crowned with Thorns), a central scene from the Passion of Christ (Matthew 27:27–31, Mark 15:16–20, John 19:2–3).

Christ as Mock King:
Christ sits humbly at the center wearing the chlamys (mock royal robe fastened at the neck) and holding or presented with a reed cane as a fake scepter.

The Torture Instrument:
Two soldiers use long wooden sticks levered together to press the crown of thick, woven thorns onto His head without piercing their own hands.

Figures of Mockery:
A soldier kneels on the left in mock homage, offering the reed to mock His kingship.

Surrounding guards wear 17th-century contemporary or pseudo-antique Roman armor, helmets, and turbans, symbolizing the secular and military powers condemning Him.

Figures in the background hold halberds, spears, and a raised torch, emphasizing the night setting and the atmosphere of persecution.

Typological Connection:
The Latin inscription from the Song of Solomon 3:11 ("Go forth, O daughters of Zion, and behold King Solomon with the crown...") serves a typological purpose, contrasting the earthly glory of King Solomon's crown with Christ's crown of suffering and spiritual kingship.
