El tipo de retratos en óvalo con leyendas en francés eran sumamente habituales en los talleres de grabadores de los siglos XVII y XVIII, tanto en Francia como en los Países Bajos y Alemania, ya que el francés funcionaba como la lengua diplomática y de la alta cultura en toda Europa, facilitando la circulación y el coleccionismo de efigies regias entre las distintas cortes.

Oval portraits with captions in French were extremely common in engravers’ workshops during the 17th and 18th centuries, both in France and in the Netherlands and Germany, since French served as the language of diplomacy and high culture throughout Europe, facilitating the circulation and collection of royal portraits among the various courts.

Este grabado calcográfico muestra un retrato en busto del reyEnrique VI de Inglaterra (Henry VI), enmarcado en un óvalo arquitectónico clasicista, un esquema compositivo y tipográfico muy característico de las ilustraciones históricas de los siglos XVII y XVIII.

• Composición y Soporte:

• El monarca aparece de tres cuartos, girado hacia su izquierda, luciendo una corona real abierta con florones, ropajes bordados de alta dignidad y un manto ribeteado de armiño. La inscripción superior indica que la estampa perteneció a una publicación encuadernada en varios volúmenes, concretamente en el "Tome II" (Tomo 2), señalando su ubicación original en la "Pag. 325".
