Classicizing Drapery:
She wears loose, non-contemporary drapery paired with a chemise, a popular convention in late 17th-century European portraiture (influenced by Sir Peter Lely and Pierre Mignard). It abstracts the sitter from transitory fashion to signal timelessness and heroic beauty.
Hairstyle:
Styled with dense, symmetrical head curls (bouffons) paired with loose ringlets falling across the shoulder—a signature hairstyle associated with the court fashion of the 1670s–1680s.
Wreath Frame:
The oval aperture is wrapped in a leaf-and-ribbon garland (often symbolic of laurel or palm), signifying fame, honor, and beauty.
Scroll Cartouche:
The base features an elaborate Baroque architectural scroll pedestal (cartouche) that anchors the portrait, functioning as a pedestal designed to display the sitter's title prominently.

MEDIDAS / MEASURES :
15 x 9 cm
TÉCNICA / TECHNIQUE:
Técnica:
Aguafuerte y grabado lineal combinados (aguafuerte y buril).
Etching Base:
Chemical etching was used to bite initial fluid, soft lines into the copper plate (evident in the subtle textures of the facial features, hair volume, and background hatching).
Engraving Finish:
A steel burin (graver) was used to sharpen contrast, deepen dark tones, and refine the clean, geometric contours of the surrounding frame, banner, and letterforms.
Stippling & Tonal Modeling:
Fine stipple etching (small dots) was applied across the face, neck, and chest to render smooth skin tones and soft light transitions across the sitter's features.
Cross-Hatching:
Precise, dense cross-hatching establishes deep shadows in the background oval field, allowing the high-contrast portrait figure to pop forward.
Plate Inscription:
Direct intaglio drypoint/engraving executed directly onto the copper plate before printing. The plate was inked, wiped clean so ink remained only in the recessed lines, and run through a high-pressure rolling press.
