Jean Daillé fue un teólogo protestante considerado uno de los grandes defensores de la reforma en la Francia del siglo XVII, se le menciona en la " History of Protestamtism de James Aitken Wylie como autor de una Apology for the French reformerd Churches.

Jean Daillé was a Protestant theologian regarded as one of the leading advocates of the Reformation in 17th-century France; he is mentioned in James Aitken Wylie’s *History of Protestantism* as the author of an *Apology for the French Reformed Churches*.

Retrato en busto de tres cuartos, inscrito dentro de un marco oval moldurado sobre un plinto o peana rectangular de piedra que alberga el cartucho con la inscripción biográfica. El retratado viste indumentaria eclesiástica reformada habitual del siglo XVII, compuesta por una toga oscura de pliegues verticales, un cuello plano blanco (col rabat) y casquete o solideo de calota sobre el cabello canoso peinado en melena.

A three-quarter bust portrait, set within an oval frame on a rectangular stone plinth or base that houses the cartouche with the biographical inscription. The subject wears the typical 17th-century ecclesiastical vestments of the Reformed period, consisting of a dark toga with vertical pleats, a flat white collar (col rabat), and a skullcap or zucchetto over his gray hair styled in a mane.

FRANCISCUS COSTERUS  ( 1532 - 1619 )

Franciscus Costerus fue un jesuita, teólogo y escritor de Amberes, recibido por el propio San Ignacio cuando aun era joven es enviado  a Colonia impartiendo clases de Astronomía y Sagradas Escrituras en 1564 la Universidad de Colonia le concedió el Doctorado en filosofía y teología, fue provincial de Belgica y asistió a tres congregaciones jesuitas generales, su obra mas importante fue el "Echiridion Controversiarum praecipuarum nostri temporis de Religiona amplado por el mismo en sus distintas ediciones y traducido a distintos idiomas, falleció en Bruselas en 1619.

Franciscus Costerus was a Jesuit, theologian and writer from Antwerp, who was received by St Ignatius himself when he was still a young man; he was sent to Cologne to teach astronomy and the Holy Scriptures. In 1564, the University of Cologne awarded him a doctorate in philosophy and theology; he served as Provincial of Belgium and attended three General Congregations of the Jesuits. His most important work was the *Echiridion Controversiarum praecipuarum nostri temporis de Religione*, which he expanded in its various editions and which was translated into several languages. He died in Brussels in 1619.

El retratado aparece caracterizado con la indumentaria propia de la Compañía de Jesús: manteo u hábito jesuita de solapa ancha y la birreta sacerdotal de cuatro picos típica del clero regular del siglo XVII. Luce barba cana de corte ajustado y mirada directa al espectador.

A three-quarter bust portrait within an oval frame with a Latin inscription. The sitter is depicted in the attire of the Society of Jesus: a Jesuit habit with a wide lapel and the four-pointed priestly biretta typical of the regular clergy of the 17th century. He sports a neatly trimmed gray beard and gazes directly at the viewer.

It was made during the subject's lifetime or shortly after his death (1619) in Flanders (Antwerp), a period of great flourishing of Counter-Reformation printmaking in the Southern Netherlands.
