ALBERTO I DE HABSBURGO. Grabado del Siglo XVII

ALBERTO I DE HABSBURGO
17th Century engravng

ALBERTO I DE HABSBURGO  ( 1255 - 1308 )

Albert I of Habsburg (German: Albrecht I.) (July 1255 – 1 May 1308) was a Duke of Austria and Styria from 1282 and King of Germany from 1298 until his assassination. He was the eldest son of King Rudolf I of Germany[1] and his first wife Gertrude of Hohenberg. Sometimes referred to as 'Albert the One-eyed' because of a battle injury that left him with a hollow eye socket and a permanent snarl.

Profile portrait in medallion (numismatic style):
The depiction of the monarch in a stern profile within a circular or oval architectural frame directly emulates ancient Roman coins and medals (numismata), reinforcing his formal title of Rex Romanorum (King of the Romans). The Crown of Arches:
Albert I appears wearing an imperial crown set with jewels, adorned with prominent fleurs-de-lis and a central arch surmounted by a cross, a symbol of sovereign monarchical dignity. Ornate Parade Armor:
He wears elaborate plate armor embellished with scrolls and lion masks on the shoulders. The lion motif traditionally symbolizes strength, royal power, and martial valor. Ermine Mantle and Fibula:
Over his shoulders, he wears a ceremonial mantle fastened by an ornate circular brooch (fibula). The rich fabric design and heavy jewels highlight his high dynastic status within the House of Habsburg. Left Medallion Motto:
Fugam. Victoria Nescit. (“Victory knows no flight”). This was the historical personal motto attributed to Albert I, symbolizing unwavering martial resolve and a refusal to retreat in battle. The epigram (martyrdom and legacy):
The Latin verse below serves as a moralizing commentary, framing his life around two key historical events: his victory over Adolf of Nassau at Gollheim and his tragic assassination at the hands of his nephew, John Parricide.
