Aert van Der Goes fue miembro de la distinguida familia Goes, abogado del gran consejo de Malinas y pensionado de Delft para los estados de Holanda escribió las actas de las asambleas de los estados generales hasta su fallecimiento en 1545.

Aert van Der Goes was a member of the distinguished Goes family, a lawyer of the Grand Council of Mechelen and a pensioner of Delft for the states of Holland. He wrote the minutes of the assemblies of the states general of Holland.

ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY :

El sujeto aparece representado de medio cuerpo, girado tres cuartos hacia la derecha, enmarcado por un elegante borde octogonal de piedra moldeada (ventana trampantojo). Viste atuendos tradicionales de erudito o magistrado del siglo XVI, que incluyen una pesada túnica forrada de piel (tabardo) y un bonete negro plano, acorde con su estatus de alto funcionario judicial de los Países Bajos.

He subject is depicted half-length, turned three-quarters to the right, framed within an elegant, molded octagonal stone border (trompe-l'œil window). He wears traditional 16th-century scholarly or magisterial attire, including a heavy fur-lined robe (tabard) and a flat black bonnet, consistent with his status as a high-ranking legal official of Holland.

Teodorico II fue Conde de Holanda desde 959 hasta su muerte en 988, fue hijo de Teodorico I de Frísia y de Heva de Hamalant.

Theodoric II was Count of Holland from 959 until his death on 988, son of Theodoric I of Frisia and Heva of Hamalant.

Como la mayoría de las primeras series de los Condes de Holanda, este es un «criptoretrato» retrospectivo e idealizado. Dirk II is depicted in stylized, exoticized Renaissance/early modern attire—featuring a soft, plumed hat, a heavy brocade cloak, and a prominent beard—conforming to 17th- and 18th-century conventions for representing medieval nobility rather than authentic 10th-century dress.

Centered below the portrait is the historical coat of arms of the County of Holland: a lion rampant within a shield, surmounted by a count's coronet.
