ROBERT BARCLAY ( 1744 - 1811 )
Robert Barclay ingresó en el ejército británico como alférez en el 38.º Regimiento de Infantería el 28 de octubre de 1789. Poco después se embarcó para servir en las Indias Orientales, donde se distinguió en combate durante las campañas de 1793. Reconocido desde el principio por sus habilidades tácticas, fue ascendido rápidamente a teniente en mayo de 1793 y a capitán en abril de 1795.
Tras un periodo en el que fue capturado por las fuerzas enemigas y sufrió un duro encarcelamiento, Barclay regresó a Inglaterra tras su liberación. Renunciando a un permiso de seis meses, se reincorporó inmediatamente a su regimiento para participar en operaciones en las Indias Occidentales.
Mando en la Guerra Peninsular
Su liderazgo llamó la atención del teniente general Sir John Moore, quien facilitó su traslado y ascenso a mayor en el renombrado 52.º Regimiento de Infantería (Oxfordshire), una unidad clave de la División Ligera Británica, en septiembre de 1803. Ascendido a teniente coronel el 29 de mayo de 1806, Barclay acompañó a Sir John Moore en su expedición militar a Suecia en 1808 antes de ser desplegado en la Península Ibérica.
La grave herida que Barclay sufrió en Bussaco obligó a su evacuación de la Campaña Peninsular. Finalmente, falleció el 11 de mayo de 1811 a causa de las complicaciones e infecciones derivadas de la herida.
Robert Barclay entered the British Army as an ensign in the 38th Regiment of Foot on October 28, 1789. He shortly thereafter embarked for service in the East Indies, distinguishing himself in combat during the campaigns of 1793. Recognized early for his tactical skills, he was rapidly promoted out of turn to lieutenant in May 1793 and captain in April 1795.
Following a period of capture by enemy forces, during which he endured harsh imprisonment, Barclay returned to England upon his release. Forgoing a six-month leave, he immediately rejoined his regiment to take part in operations in the West Indies.
Command in the Peninsular War
His leadership caught the attention of Lieutenant-General Sir John Moore, who facilitated his transfer and promotion to major in the renowned 52nd (Oxfordshire) Regiment of Foot—a core element of the British Light Division—in September 1803. Promoted to lieutenant-colonel on May 29, 1806, Barclay accompanied Sir John Moore on his military expedition to Sweden in 1808 before deploying to the Iberian Peninsula.
The severe wound Barclay sustained at Bussaco forced his evacuation from the Peninsular Campaign. He ultimately succumbed to the long-term complications and infections of the injury on May 11, 1811.

Europa Magazine fue una publicación aparecida en Londres entre 1782 y 1826 ofreciendo información de personalidades notables del Reino Unido y Europa, todo ello acompañado de un bello grabado del personaje y realizado en buril, en ello colaboraron algunos de los grabadores Ingleses mas reputados del momento.
Europa Magazine was a publication published in London between 1782 and 1826 offering information on notable personalities of the United Kingdom and Europe, all accompanied by a beautiful engraving of the character and made in burin, in it collaborated some of the most reputable English engravers of the time.
