Hans Sachs fue un poeta, dramaturgo y zapatero Alemán, una de las figuras mas preminentes de los Maestros Cantores de Núremberg.
Hans Sachs was a German poet, playwright, and shoemaker, one of the most prominent figures of the Nuremberg Mastersingers.

Lucas Kilian sculp. (Lucas Kilian, grabador). Kilian (1579–1637) fue un reputado grabador de Augsburgo, miembro de una célebre dinastía de artistas e ilustradores alemanes. El grabado original data habitualmente de 1623, concebido para conmemorar la memoria del poeta décadas después de su muerte.On the spine of the book the figure holds in his right hand, the inscription "Lucas Kilian sculp." (Lucas Kilian, engraver) is clearly visible. Kilian (1579–1637) was a renowned engraver from Augsburg, a member of a celebrated dynasty of German artists and illustrators. The original engraving is usually dated to 1623, conceived to commemorate the poet decades after his death.

La composición sigue la tipología clásica del erudito o teólogo protestante, rodeado de grandes volúmenes encuadernados en pergamino o piel con cierres metálicos y un tintero con una pluma de ave en primer plano. Sin embargo, los textos revelan su verdadero origen humilde.
The composition follows the classic typology of the Protestant scholar or theologian, surrounded by large volumes bound in parchment or leather with metal clasps, and an inkwell with a quill pen in the foreground. However, the texts reveal his true humble origins.
