El formato en óvalo (muy utilizado en las publicaciones periódicas y colecciones biográficas de finales del siglo XVIII, como el Biographical Magazine) aísla y ennoblece al sujeto, otorgándole un carácter clásico y conmemorativo, similar a los bustos de los antiguos filósofos o poetas.
Viste los elementos característicos de la época de la Restauración inglesa: una melena larga, abundante y ondulada que denota distinción y estatus intelectual, acompañada de una casaca oscura de líneas sobrias y una corbata o alzacuello de encaje finamente trabajado. The oval format—widely used in late 18th-century periodicals and biographical collections, such as the *Biographical Magazine*—isolates and ennobles the subject, lending him a classical, commemorative air akin to the busts of ancient philosophers or poets. Attire and portrait iconography: He wears the characteristic dress of the English Restoration era—long, full, wavy hair denoting distinction and intellectual status, paired with a dark coat of understated cut and a finely worked lace cravat or neckband. This type of lightweight neckwear was a common attribute of men of letters, clergy, and courtiers during the late Stuart period.
