El Condado de Holanda fue un antiguo estado feudal del Sacro Imperio Romano. Germánico fundado en el siglo XI, por la dinastía Gerulfing, fue adquirida en 1433 por el Duque de Borgoña Felipe III el Bueno ( 1396 - 1467 ), pasando el Condado a la dinastía de los Hasburgo de la mano de Felipe el Hermoso ( 1478 - 1506 ) con Carlos V ( 1500 - 1558 ) y finalmente
Bajo el reinado de Felipe II ( 1555 - 1598 ) conde de Flándes , Rey de España y último Conde de Holanda.
El Condado desempeño un papel importante durante el levantamiento protestante que condujo a la secesión de las denominadas provincias unidas de los paises bajos, por el acta de la Haya de 1581 Holanda depuso a su Conde Felipe V y se unió a las provincias unidas.
The County of Holland was a former feudal state of the holy Roman Empire Germanic, founded in the 11th century, by the Gerulfing dynasty, it was acquired in 1433 by the Duke of Bourgogne Philip III The Good ( 1396 - 1467 ) passing the County to the dynasty of the Habsburgs under Philip the fair ( 1478 - 1506 ), with Charles V ( 1500 - 1558 ) and finally under
Philip II ( 1555 - 1598 ) Count of Flandes, King of Spain and las count of Holland.
The county played an important role during the protestant uprising that led to the secession of the so-called United Provinces of the low countries, by the act of the Hague of 1581 Holland deposed its Count Philip V and joined the United Provinces.

El retrato muestra a Felipe II luciendo una corona estilizada y un prominente cuello abierto y rígido (variante de valona o gorguera de transición) sobre atuendo ceremonial. Entre los campos de texto del estandarte inferior se encuentra el escudo de armas que representa la compleja heráldica asociada con los Países Bajos españoles y el Condado de Holanda bajo el dominio de los Habsburgo.
He portrait depicts Philip IV wearing a stylized crown and a prominent, stiff open collar (valona variant or transitional ruff) over ceremonial attire. Between the text fields of the lower banner rests the coat of arms representing the complex heraldry associated with the Spanish Netherlands and the County of Holland under Habsburg rule.

Scriverius fue un célebre historiador y coleccionista holandés del siglo XVII que poseía o documentó los retratos e iconografía original de los antiguos condes de Holanda. Los grabadores franceses del siglo XVIII, como Flipart, reutilizaron y adaptaron estos modelos históricos neerlandeses para ediciones ilustradas de gran calidad.

Scriverius was a renowned 17th-century Dutch historian and collector who owned or documented the portraits and original iconography of the former Counts of Holland. 18th-century French engravers, such as Flipart, reused and adapted these historical Dutch models for high-quality illustrated editions.
