Georges Abbot fue un arzobisplo Anglicano, degano de Winchester obispo de Londres y Lichbield , arzobispo de Canterburry y tres veces vicerectort de Oxford, tradujo el nuevo testamento del latín al ingles e intervino activamente en la traducc

ión de la bíblia.

George Abbot was an Anglican archbishop, dean of Winchester, bishop of London and Lichbridge, archbishop of Canterbury and three times vice-chancellor of Oxford, he translated the new testament from Latin into English and was actively involved in the translation of the Bible.

ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY :
George Abbot aparece representado de medio cuerpo, ligeramente girado hacia la derecha pero mirando directamente al espectador. Viste el atuendo eclesiástico jacobino típico: una chimera oscura sobre un roquete blanco, un prominente cuello de gorguera y un gorro de Canterbury (o gorra plana). Sostiene un pequeño libro (probablemente una Biblia o un libro de oraciones) en su mano izquierda, lo que subraya su autoridad teológica e intelectual.

Composición:
El retrato está enmarcado por un borde ovalado clásico con motivos de volutas. Las esquinas del plato rectangular están decoradas con motivos geométricos lineales. La base presenta un cartucho decorativo con motivos de cintas que contiene el dístico elegíaco en latín.

George Abbot is depicted half-length, turned slightly to the right but looking directly at the viewer. He wears typical Jacobean ecclesiastical attire: a dark chimera over a white rochet, a prominent ruff, and a Canterbury cap (or flat cap). He holds a small book (probably a Bible or prayer book) in his left hand, underscoring his theological and intellectual authority.

Composition:
The portrait is framed by a classical oval border with scroll motifs. The corners of the rectangular plate are decorated with linear geometric patterns. The base features a decorative cartouche with bribon motifs containing the elegiac couplet in Latin.
