El conflicto central:

En el centro-izquierda, San Pablo se encuentra ante el sumo consejo. El sumo sacerdote (Ananías) acaba de ordenar a quienes están cerca de Pablo que lo golpeen en la boca. Vemos una figura con el brazo levantado justo detrás de Pablo, capturando el momento exacto del enfrentamiento físico.

El Sanedrín:

Los miembros del consejo están sentados en un banco semicircular escalonado (exedra), que imita la arquitectura romana clásica o teatral, gesticulando en un acalorado debate.

La intervención romana:

En el extremo izquierdo, un guardia romano fuertemente armado se encuentra junto a una columna monumental. Al fondo, se ven soldados romanos a caballo y a pie, listos para intervenir e impedir que Pablo sea despedazado por las facciones amotinadas de saduceos y fariseos.

The Central Conflict:
In the center-left, Saint Paul stands before the high council. The high priest (Ananias) has just ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth. We see a figure with an upraised arm directly behind Paul, capturing the exact moment of physical confrontation.

The Sanhedrin:
The council members are seated on a semicircular, tiered bench (exedra) mimicking classical Roman or theatrical architecture, gesturing in heated debate.

The Roman Intervention:
On the far left, a heavily armed Roman guard stands by a monumental column. In the background, Roman soldiers on horseback and foot are visible, ready to intervene to prevent Paul from being torn to pieces by the rioting factions of Sadducees and Pharisees.

Jobst Christoph Kreb Von Kresenstein I was a German nobleman and military officer, Lord of Rezelbed, Dürremungenau, guardian member and imperial councilor of Nuremberg, Knight of the Francophonie and guardian of the books of the House of Nuremberg.

ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY

Indumentaria:

Jobst Christoph Kreß viste la indumentaria civil y diplomática propia de la nobleza patricia protestante de mediados del siglo XVII. Destaca la valona de encaje o cuello plano rectangular (rabat) con cordones de borlas al frente, sobre una ropilla oscura con abotonadura central y finos bordados en las mangas.

Cabello y Rostro:

Luce la melena larga y rizada característica de la época de Luis XIII / regencia de Ana de Austria, acompañada del clásico bigote recortado y la perilla fina tipo royale, aportando gravedad y estatus institucional al rostro.

El Óvalo Vegetal:

El retrato se encuadra en una orla ovalada ornamentada con hojas de laurel y palma entrelazadas. El laurel simboliza la virtud, el triunfo y la dignidad de la función pública, mientras que en el contexto de las negociaciones de 1648 evoca directamente la victoria de la diplomacia y la consecución de la paz mundial
