Este grabado en madera representa una famosa narración bíblica del Libro del Éxodo: El cruce del Mar Rojo (y la posterior destrucción del ejército del faraón).
This woodcut depicts a famous biblical narrative from the Book of Exodus: The Crossing of the Red Sea (and the subsequent destruction of Pharaoh's army).
ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY:
La columna de nube y fuego: En la parte superior derecha del cielo, se observa una columna vertical y sinuosa. Según el relato bíblico, Dios guió a los israelitas con una columna de nube de día y de fuego de noche.
La apertura y el cierre del mar: A la izquierda, se aprecian olas turbulentas, aguas agitadas y lo que parecen ser las ruedas volcadas de carros y figuras ahogándose, que representan al ejército del faraón siendo engullido por el mar.
Los israelitas en tierra firme: En la mitad derecha de la imagen, una gran multitud organizada (incluidos soldados con lanzas, familias y figuras que miran hacia atrás, hacia la destrucción) se encuentra a salvo en la orilla.
Moisés o Aarón: Hacia el centro-derecha, una figura prominente mira hacia el mar, probablemente sosteniendo el bastón con el que se controlaban las aguas.
The Pillar of Cloud and Fire: In the upper right sky, there is a distinct, vertical, twisting column. In the biblical account, God guided the Israelites by a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night.
The Parting and Closing of the Sea: On the left side, you can see chaotic waves, churning water, and what appear to be the overturned wheels of chariots and drowning figures—representing Pharaoh's army being swallowed by the sea.
The Israelites on Safe Ground: On the right half of the print, a large, organized multitude of people (including soldiers with spears, families, and figures looking back at the destruction) are standing safely on the shore.
Moses or Aaron: Towards the center-right, a prominent figure stands looking back toward the sea, likely holding the staff used to command the waters.
