Jean François de Gondi fue el primer arzobispo de París, perteneció a la influyente família Gondi que ocupó el arzobispado de París durante casi un siglo.

La figura se presenta de medio cuerpo, girada tres cuartos hacia la derecha, mirando al espectador. Está enmarcada por un elegante borde ovalado minimalista que descansa sobre un pedestal rectangular de aspecto pétreo que alberga la inscripción.
Gondi aparece con atuendo eclesiástico, luciendo birrete arzobispal, un amplio cuello de lino y sotana abotonada. Su barba puntiaguda y su bigote estilizado son característicos de la moda cortesana y clerical francesa de las décadas de 1630 a 1650

The subject is presented bust-length, turned three-quarters to the right, looking toward the viewer. He is set within an elegant, minimalist oval border resting on a rectangular stone-like plinth that houses the inscription.
Gondi is depicted in ecclesiastical attire, wearing an archbishop's cap (biretta), a wide linen collar, and a buttoned cassock or mozzetta. His pointed beard and stylized mustache are highly characteristic of French courtly and clerical fashions of the 1630s–1650s.

Uno de los grabadores y dibujantes franceses más prolíficos y célebres del reinado de Luis XIII y principios del de Luis XIV. El término «fecit» (en latín, «lo hizo») indica que Lasne ejecutó el grabado personalmente y probablemente también dibujó el modelo del retrato.

One of the most prolific and celebrated French engravers and draughtsmen of the reign of Louis XIII and the early reign of Louis XIV. The term fecit (Latin for "made it") indicates that Lasne executed the engraving itself, and likely drew the portrait model as well.
