IOSAPHAT TRÈS PIEUX ROY DE IUDA
El grabado corresponde a una de las célebres ilustraciones de la conocida como «Biblia de Royaumont» (L'Histoire du Vieux et du Nouveau Testament), una de las obras de divulgación bíblica más influyentes del siglo XVII y XVIII, editada originalmente bajo el seudónimo del Sieur de Royaumont, Prieur de Sombreval (atribuida principalmente al teólogo jansenista Nicolas Fontaine, o bien a Louis-Isaac Lemaistre de Sacy).
This print corresponds to one of the famous illustrations of the so-called "Royaumont Bible" (L'Histoire du Vieux et du Nouveau Testament), one of the most influential works of biblical popularization of the 17th and 18th centuries, originally published under the pseudonym of Sieur de Royaumont, Prieur de Sombreval (attributed mainly to the Jansenist theologian Nicolas Fontaine, or to Louis-Isaac Lemaistre de Sacy).

La imagen ilustra los pasajes del Segundo Libro de las Crónicas (y 1 Reyes), narrando el reinado de Josafat, la destrucción de los ídolos y la posterior victoria militar sobre la coalición de Moab y Amón tras sus oraciones, lo que infundió el temor de Dios en los reinos circundantes. Se aprecia al monarca orando a caballo con los brazos alzados en acción de gracias, mientras las tropas recogen el botín abandonado por los enemigos y resuenan las trompetas.
The image illustrates passages from the Second Book of Chronicles (and 1 Kings), narrating the reign of Jehoshaphat, the destruction of idols, and the subsequent military victory over the Moabite-Ammonian coalition following his prayers, which instilled the fear of God in the surrounding kingdoms. The monarch is depicted praying on horseback with his arms raised in thanksgiving, while troops gather the spoils abandoned by the enemy and trumpets sound.
