Although many of the major portrait series of the Fugger family (*Fuggerorum et Fuggerarum imagines*) were originally begun in the late 16th century by Dominicus Custos and continued in the 17th century by the Kilian dynasty of engravers (such as Lucas or Wolfgang Kilian), these types of loose sheets—or individual additions for secondary genealogies dating from the mid-17th century—typically issued from the print workshops active in Augsburg at the time, which were characterized by a masterful command of the burin and of chiaroscuro effects on laid paper.
