René - Aubert de Vertot fué un historiador, escritor y eclesiástico de la orden de los Franciscanos menores, Abad del Monasterio de Joyenval y miembro de la academia de Buenas Letras de París.

René - Aubert de Vertot was a historian, writer and ecclesiastic of the order of The Franciscan Friars Minor, Abbot of the Monastery of Joyenval and member of The Academyof Good Letters of Paris.

Retrato:

El abad de Vertot aparece con atuendo clerical, luciendo las distintivas bandas (rabat) y la cruz de la Orden de Malta (asociada a su papel como historiógrafo oficial de los Caballeros Hospitalarios, para quienes escribió su célebre Historia de los Caballeros de Malta).

Heráldica:

El escudo presenta las armas de la familia Aubert: de oro, tres fajas de gules, cargadas con tres tréboles (o rosetas) contrapuestos (o una variante), coronadas por una corona de conde o noble y flanqueadas por un lambrequín decorativo.

 The Abbé de Vertot is depicted in clerical attire, wearing the distinct bands (rabat) and the cross of the Order of Malta (associated with his role as the official historiographer for the Knights Hospitaller, for whom he wrote his famous Histoire des Chevaliers de Malte). 

 Heraldry: 

The shield features the Aubert family arms: Or, three bars gules, charged with three trefoils (or rosettes) counterchanged (or a variant thereof), surmounted by a count's or nobleman's coronet and flanked by decorative mantling.
