Luis de Requesens y Zuñiga fue un General y diplomático Español, en 1561 es nombrado embajador en Roma por Felipe II, lugarteniente de Juan de Austria durante la batalla de Lepanto, gobernador del Milanesado entre 1571 y 1573 es nombrado gobernador General de los Paises Bajos Españoles y a su vez consejero de estado de Felipe II, falleció a los 47 años de edad en Bruselas.

Luis de Requesens y Zuñiga was a Spanish general and diplomat, in 1561 he was appointed ambassador in Rome by Philip II, lieutenant of John of Austria participating in the battle of Lepanto, governor of Milan in 1571, in 1573 he was appointed governor general of the Spanish Netherlands and in turn state councilor of Philip II, died at age 47 in Brussels.

El personaje se muestra de medio cuerpo en un nicho de medio punto de estilo severo, vistiendo una imponente armadura borgoñona con gola rizada ajustada al cuello, sosteniendo con firmeza el bastón de mando militar, atributos típicos que ensalzan su alta condición de gobernador general y estratega de la Monarquía Hispánica.

The character is shown from the waist up in a semicircular niche of severe style, wearing an imposing Burgundian armor with a curled ruff fitted to the neck, firmly holding the military command staff, typical attributes that extol his high status as governor general and strategist of the Hispanic Monarchy.

TÉCNICA / TECHNIQUE :

Grabado a buril / Burin engraving

Técnica principal: Grabado lineal (grabado con buril), probablemente complementado con un ligero grabado preliminar para definir los contornos de la tela.

Trazado lineal y sombreado: Se caracteriza por líneas de buril precisas, paralelas y entrecruzadas. Las transiciones tonales suaves en la armadura de acero/hierro se logran mediante trazos cortos y un sombreado denso y paralelo.

El modelado lineal sigue la forma tridimensional de las hombreras y la coraza para recrear el brillo del metal pulido.

El punteado y los trazos cortos y rápidos transmiten la textura del vello facial y el tono de la piel.

El sombreado cruzado profundo y rítmico en las enjutas del fondo crea sombras y profundidad visual dentro del nicho de piedra (estilo calcográfico).

Primary Medium: Line Engraving (engraving with burin), likely supplemented with light preliminary etching for the soft fabric contours.

Line Work & Hatching: Characterized by precise, parallel, and cross-hatched burin lines. Smooth tonal transitions across the steel/iron plate armor are achieved using closely spaced flicking and dense parallel hatching.

Linear modeling follows the three-dimensional form of the shoulder guard (pauldrons) and breastplate to render polished metal reflectivity.

Stippling and short, flicked strokes convey the texture of facial hair and skin tone.

Deep, rhythmic cross-hatching in the background spandrels creates shadow and visual depth within the stone niche (chalcography style).
