Johannes Schimidius fue un teólogo y eclesiástico Luerano de Estrasburgo, curso estudios en la Universidad de Tubinga y fue profesor en las universidades de Halle - Wittenverg.
Johannes Schimidius was a Lutheran theologian from Strasbourg who studied at the University of Tübingen and taught at the universities of Halle and Wittenberg.

Retrato de busto en un marco ovalado (medallón) inscrito en un rectángulo tramado. El retratado viste gorguera de lechuguilla (ruche) y ropón académico/ecclesiástico típico del entorno protestante de la primera mitad del siglo XVII.
Edad del retratado:
La inscripción marca ÆT. 34 (a la edad de 34 años), lo que sitúa el modelo original hacia 1628.
Composición y talla:
Grabado con trama de líneas horizontales densas al fondo para resaltar el ovalo; sombreado en el rostro mediante talla directa fina y entramado cruzado en las vestimentas.

El grabado muestra las características líneas nítidas del trabajo de buril combinado con aguafuerte para las densas tramas del fondo que realzan el volumen del retratado, ataviado con la característica gola o cuello de lechuguilla del siglo XVII. El papel revela la textura propia de las impresiones en papel verjurado de la época, y la conservación de la línea del margen inferior que incluye la signatura tipográfica tipificada (ddd. 1.) añade valor a la integridad de la estampa, al no haber sido recortada a ras del óvalo como ocurre frecuentemente en colecciones fragmentarias.
The engraving displays the characteristic crisp lines of burin work combined with etching for the dense background textures that enhance the volume of the sitter, who is adorned with the characteristic ruff or collar of the 17th century. The paper reveals the texture typical of prints on laid paper from that period, and the preservation of the lower margin line, which includes the type signature (ddd. 1.), adds value to the integrity of the print, as it has not been trimmed flush with the oval as is often the case in fragmentary collections.
