Charles Palissot de Montongny fue un dramaturgo francés, admirador de Voltaire y a su cez critico con Diderot y los autores de la enciclopedia, su obra mas destacable fue la comedia les philosophes.

Charles Palissot de Montongny was a French playwright, admirer of Voltaire and, in his time, critic of Diderot and the authors of the encyclopaedia. His most notable work was Les Philosophes.

ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY

Retrato: Busto en tres cuartos del personaje mirando a la derecha, enmarcado en un medallón ovalado suspendido por una cinta de lazo en la parte superior. Palissot viste indumentaria setecentista con chorrera de encaje (jabot) y peluca empolvada con tirabuzón posterior.

 Elementos heráldicos e inscripciones: 

En la peana inferior flanqueando el escudo de armas coronado aparece la inscripción: "CHARLES PALISSOT / Né à Nancy le 3 janv.er 1730". 

 Dístico latino e inscripciones inferiores: 

Bajo el pedestal figura una cita poética en dos líneas: "Livor Aristophanem, infido quem nomine dixit, / Hunc et Aristophanem, Gloria jure vocat." (con atribución "Par M. Brunet" a la derecha).

Portrait:

Three-quarter bust of the subject facing right, framed in an oval medallion suspended from a ribbon at the top. Palissot wears 18th-century attire with a lace jabot and a powdered wig with a ringlet at the back. Heraldic elements and inscriptions:

On the lower pedestal, flanking the crowned coat of arms, appears the inscription: "CHARLES PALISSOT / Born in Nancy on January 3, 1730." Latin distich and inscriptions below:

Beneath the pedestal is a two-line poetic quotation: "Livor Aristophanem, infido quem nomine dixit, / Hunc et Aristophanem, Gloria jure vocat." (with the attribution "Par M. Brunet" on the right).

 Segunda mitad del siglo XVIII (c. 1760–1770). El estilo estilístico del retrato (peluca con bucle lateral, chorrera de encaje y enmarcado neoclásico en medallón ovalado) corresponde con la época de pleno esplendor de la Ilustración francesa y el auge de la sátira teatral de Charles Palissot.

Second half of the 18th century (c. 1760–1770). The stylistic style of the portrait (wig with side curl, lace jabot and neoclassical frame in oval medallion) corresponds to the period of full splendor of the French Enlightenment and the rise of the theatrical satire of Charles Palissot.
