Iacobus Martini was a Lutheran theologian and professor at the University of Wittemberg, his most important work was ‘Theorenatum Metaphisicorum’.

Retrato de tres cuartos a la izquierda, enmarcado dentro de una orla ovalada en cuyo borde (oval border) corre la leyenda conmemorativa e identificativa.

Portado por los docentes y teólogos del protestantismo luterano de los siglos XVI y XVII. La tela muestra un dibujo brocado o labrado en el peto frontal.
Cuello caído (Faltenkragen / Klappkragen):
Cuello amplio de tela blanca lisa plegado hacia abajo sobre los hombros, típico del vestido clerical y académico en la Europa del norte a mediados del siglo XVII, sustituyendo a la lechuguilla del período inmediatamente anterior.

Barba dividida / bífida (Bipartite beard):
Larga barba cana que cae sobre el pecho, dividida centralmente. En la iconografía teológica luterana del período Barroco, este rasgo evoca sabiduría, autoridad patriarcal y erudición, además de emular la estética de los reformadores clásicos (como Filip Melanchthon o Juan Calvino).

Proyecta la sobriedad, firmeza doctrinal y autoridad académica propias de un Profesor Primarius y superintendente de Wittenberg.
