Alegoría de la Fábula / Cuento:
En el centro, una figura femenina personifica la Poesía Narrativa o la Fábula, coronada de laureles y con alas en la cabeza (representación de la imaginación y la fama). Apoya su brazo izquierdo sobre un pedestal arquitectónico adornado con tomos donde se leen nombres de referentes del género satírico y novelesco, como Ariosto y Boccaccio (Ariosto, Boccace).
Atributos de Abundancia e Ingenio:
A la izquierda, un putto vierte agua de una vasija sobre una fuente o cuenca decorada con conchas marinas y elementos marinos, alegoría del flujo constante del ingenio narrativo (la fontaine o fuente de la inspiración).
Base Pedestal:
Actúa como portada alegórica donde se graba en la piedra el título principal del volumen (CONTES DE M.R DE LA FONTAINE enrichis de tailles douces).
Remate Superior:
Sobre el pedestal arquitectónico reposa una escultura o bajorrelieve de un ciervo acosado o un perro, evocando la fauna y las moralejas alegóricas asociadas a la narrativa de fábulas.
Estilo Artístico:
Barroco tardío / Estilo holandés de finales del XVII, caracterizado por el dinamismo dramatizado, los fuertes contrastes de claroscuro y la densidad de detalles simbólicos propios de Romeyn de Hooghe.
