FEBRAURIUS ALLÉGORIE
Febraurius o febrero en el calendario Gregoriano es el segundo mes mas corto del año, fue llamado así en honor a las Februas, el festival Romano de la purificación que se celebraba cada 15 de febrero en la denominadas fiestas Lupercales, posteriormente el Dios Romano Februus considerado la deidad de los muertos y la purificación personifico el mes de febrero, en la Iglésia Católica este mes esta dedicado a la Sagrada Família y al Espíritu Santo.
Febraurius o february in the Gregorian calendar is the second shortest month of the year, it was named after februas the Roman festival of purification that was celebrated every february 15 ib the so-called Luperal feast later the Roman good Februus considered the deity of the dead and purification personified the month, in the Catholic Church this month is dedicated to the Holy Spirit and the Holy family.
ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY
Figura alegórica principal:
Un joven alado que representa el mes de febrero (y el invierno), sentado sobre un pedestal clásico. Las alas aluden a la naturaleza efímera del tiempo y las estaciones.
Cornucopia:
Sostenida en el brazo derecho de la figura, la cornucopia está repleta de piñas, árboles de hoja perenne y follaje latente, en lugar de las típicas frutas de primavera/verano, simbolizando la abundancia contenida y el almacenamiento de recursos durante el final del invierno.
Motivo del fuego/brasero:
La figura sostiene un incensario o un pequeño brasero/antorcha de mano en su mano izquierda, un atributo icónico que representa el calor, el fuego y la calidez del hogar, necesarios durante el frío mes de invierno.
Simbolismo zodiacal:
Suspendido justo encima de la figura en un medallón ovalado en forma de corona se encuentra Piscis (los dos peces nadando en direcciones opuestas), que es el signo astrológico que corresponde desde mediados de febrero hasta mediados de marzo.
Contexto escultórico:
La figura está representada como una estatua exenta sobre un pedestal tallado, lo que refleja el origen del grabado como documentación de las estatuas de jardín reales encargadas para Versalles (parte del programa de la Grande Commande o alegorías estacionales de Charles Le Brun).
Primary Allegorical Figure:
A winged youth representing the month of February (and winter), seated upon a classical pedestal. The wings reference the fleeting nature of time and seasons.
Cornucopia:
Held in the figure's right arm, the horn of plenty is packed with pinecones, evergreens, and dormant foliage rather than typical spring/summer fruits, symbolizing the muted abundance and storage of resources during late winter.
Fire / Brazier Motif:
The figure holds an incense burner or small handheld brazier/torch in his left hand, an iconic attribute representing heat, fire, and indoor warmth necessary during the cold winter month.
Zodiac Symbolism:
Suspended directly above the figure in an oval wreath medallion is Pisces (the two fish swimming in opposite directions), which is the astrological sign corresponding to mid-February through mid-March.
Sculptural Context:
The figure is rendered as a freestanding statue atop a carved pedestal, reflecting the print's origin as a documentation of royal garden statuary commissioned for Versailles (part of Charles Le Brun's program of the Grande Commande or seasonal allegories).
