Orazio Augenio fue un reconocido y reputado médico del Renacimiento Italiano, se formo en Pádua bajo la tutela de Francesco Frigimelica ( 1490 - 1558 )  y Giovanni Batista di Monte, en 1559 obtuvo la cátedra de medicina en la Universidad de Roma, luego del fallecimiento en 1592 del célebre galeno Giovanni Argenteiro ocupó la cátedra de medicina en la Universidad de Turín, presidió la difusión del " Theoricam Ordinariam Medicinae " en la Universidad de Pádua, Orazio Augenio fue un insigne médico, filosofo y humanista, publicó diferentes ensayos y tratados de medicina, fue el médico personal del Papa Clemente VIII y de algunas de las familias mas poderosas del renacimiento Italiano.

Orazio Augenio was a renowned and renowned physician of the Italian Renaissance, he was trained in Padua under the tutelage of the famous doctor Francesco Frigimelica (1490 - 1558) and Giovanni Batista di Monte, in 1559 he obtained the chair of medicine at the University of Rome, later and after the death of the famous doctor Giovanni Argenteiro he occupied the chair at the University of Turin, In 1592 and until his death he presided the chair “Theoricam Ordinariam Medicinae” at the University of Padua, Orazio Augenio was a humanist physician and philosopher, published several essays and treatises on medicine, was the personal physician of Pope Clement VIII and of some of the most powerful families of the Italian Renaissance.

Augenio aparece representado de medio cuerpo, girado tres cuartos hacia la derecha, mirando al espectador. Luce un prominente cuello de gorguera almidonada y plisada, típico de la indumentaria académica y de alto estatus de finales de la década de 1580 y de la de 1590. Su jubón presenta ricos y elaborados motivos florales de damasco o brocado, que denotan su elevada posición social y su éxito profesional. Su mano izquierda reposa elegantemente sobre el borde superior del cartucho inferior.

 Augenio is depicted half-length, turned three-quarters to the right, looking toward the viewer. He wears a prominent, tightly pleated starched ruff collar (gorguera) typical of academic and high-status dress of the late 1580s and 1590s. His doublet features rich, intricate damask or brocade floral patterns, signifying his high social standing and professional success. His left hand rests elegantly on the upper edge of the lower cartouche.

A la derecha de la firma del cartucho se encuentra un monograma distintivo (AE o una combinación de marca de la imprenta y marca del grabador). Probablemente, este identifica al grabador o impresor responsable de la ejecución física del bloque.

 To the right of the cartouche signature is a distinct monogram (AE or a combined housemark/formcutter mark). This likely designates the formschneider (block-cutter) or printer responsible for the physical execution of the block.

El fino y denso sombreado paralelo y cruzado del contorno del fondo confiere una profundidad sorprendente, característica de las ilustraciones xilográficas del norte de Italia o de los países germánicos del Renacimiento tardío, destinadas a la publicación de libros.

The fine, dense parallel hatching and cross-hatching in the background contour give a striking depth, characteristic of late Renaissance Northern Italian or Germanic woodcut illustrations intended for book publishing.
