It depicts Henriette within an ogee-arched oval frame, dressed in the fashion of the late 16th or early 17th century—characterized by a wide, pleated ruff, a richly decorated bodice, and an elaborate high hairstyle adorned with ornaments and feathers.

The cartouche below clearly displays her name and key biographical dates:

At the top, the motto "GLORIA RAPIT" flanks an oval medallion containing a peacock with its tail fanned out—a classic symbol traditionally associated with pride, immortality, or earthly glory.

The engraving dates to the Late Baroque period (or the transitional era between the 17th and 18th centuries, spanning the reign of Louis XIV in France and the graphic art of the Spanish Netherlands during that time). In the history of art and printmaking, this era represents the golden age of intaglio and reproductive engraving in Flanders and France, a time that saw a massive surge in illustrated books covering historical, biographical, and genealogical subjects.

CONTEXTO / CONTEXT:

These types of portraits were part of biographical and historical series printed in volumes published in Flanders, France, or Germany (such as collections of French historical memoirs or the noble directories that were highly popular at the time), and were printed on the laid rag paper characteristic of European publications during the transition to the eighteenth century.
