MATER AMORIS ET DOLORIS
Este grabado religioso, que data aproximadamente del siglo XVII o XVIII, representa una iconografía centrada en la Pasión de Cristo y la compasión mariana.
Iconografía :
La Crucifixión y los Ángeles:
En la parte superior, Jesucristo aparece crucificado bajo el rótulo "IN RI". Está rodeado por una corte de ángeles y querubines entre nubes. Varios de ellos portan cálices para recoger la sangre que brota de las llagas de las manos y el costado de Cristo, un motivo teológico clásico que alude al sacrificio eucarístico.
La Virgen de los Dolores (Mater Dolorosa):
En el centro del plano inferior, de pie y en actitud de oración con las manos cruzadas, se alza la Virgen María. Tiene el pecho atravesado por una espada, una representación directa de la profecía de Simeón ("y una espada traspasará tu propia alma"), que simboliza sus dolores.
La Vista de la Ciudad:
Al fondo, detrás de la Virgen y bajo el rompimiento de gloria, se aprecia una detallada vista panorámica de la ciudad de Múnich (Baviera) con sus murallas, el río Isar y las siluetas de sus iglesias características, destacando las torres de la Frauenkirche (Catedral de Nuestra Señora).

This religious engraving, dating from approximately the 17th or 18th century, depicts a scene centred on the Passion of Christ and Marian compassion.

The Crucifixion and the Angels:
At the top, Jesus Christ appears crucified beneath the inscription ‘IN RI’. He is surrounded by a host of angels and cherubs amidst clouds. Several of them hold chalices to catch the blood flowing from the wounds in Christ’s hands and side, a classic theological motif alluding to the Eucharistic sacrifice.
Our Lady of Sorrows (Mater Dolorosa):
In the centre of the lower panel, standing in a prayerful pose with her hands clasped, stands the Virgin Mary. A sword pierces her chest, a direct representation of Simeon’s prophecy (“and a sword will pierce your own soul”), symbolising her sorrows.
The View of the City:
In the background, behind the Virgin and beneath the halo, a detailed panoramic view of the city of Munich (Bavaria) can be seen, with its walls, the River Isar and the silhouettes of its characteristic churches, notably the towers of the Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Lady).

Antonius Ginther ( 1655 - 1724 ) fue un teólogo Alemán autor de diversas obras que alcanzaron cierto renombre entre finales del siglo XVII y durante todo el siglo XVIII, la publicación Mater Amoris et Doloris fue auspiciada por la acaudalada y poderosa família Fugger , la primera edición fue publicada en Augsburgo en 1711, durante todo el siglo XVIII se sucedieron distintas ediciones siendo las cuatro primeras casi idénticas y apareciendo en todas ellas el grabado frontispicio de Jesucristo crucificado rodeado de Ángeles, en la parte inferior encontramos la imagen de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores atravesada por una espada y una vista de la ciudad de Munich, con los textos en latín Gemitus Matris tuae ne obliviscaris, Mater amoris et doloris , Ecce Mater Tua. lo 19.27 con la inscripcción al pie del grabado Vera Effigies Dolorosae Matris Monachij in Bavariae Metropoli Thaumaturgae, grabado atribuido a Johann Caspar Gutwein ( 1650 - 1730 )
Antonius Ginther (1655 - 1724) was a German theologian author of several works that reached certain renown between the end of the XVII century and during all the XVIII century, the work Mater Amoris et Doloris was sponsored by the wealthy and powerful Fugger family, the first edition was published in Augsburg in 1711, The first edition was published in Augsburg in 1711, the first four editions being almost identical and appearing in all of them the frontispiece engraving of Jesus Christ crucified surrounded by Angels, in the lower part we find the image of Our Lady of Sorrows pierced by a sword and a view of the city of Munich with the Latin texts Gemitus Matris tuae ne obliviscaris, Mater amoris et doloris , Ecce Mater Tua. lo 19.27 with the inscription at the bottom of the engraving Vera Effigies Dolorosae Matris Monachij in Bavariae Metropoli Thaumaturgae .
