CORNALINE

Cornaline es un grabado representando una bacanal ambientada en la Época Clásica con figuras femeninas llevando cestas de uva, Sátiros y varias figuras masculinas, una de ellas calentando una copa en un fuego entre otros elementos.

Cornaline is an engraving representing a bacchanal set in the Classical period with female figures carrying baskets of grapes, Satyrs and several male figures, one of them heating a cup in a fire among other elements.

ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY
Tema central:
La composición ilustra una escena clásica de vendimia báquica o dionisíaca (*Vendanges à la manière des Anciens*), reproduciendo la composición del famoso entalle antiguo de cornalina conocido como el *Cachet de Michel-Ange* (Sello de Miguel Ángel). Figuras y alegoría: Vendimia y cestas:
Varias figuras de estilo clásico —algunas de las cuales sostienen o transportan cestas de uvas equilibradas sobre sus cabezas— representan la recolección de la uva. Ofrendas y libaciones:
Una figura a caballo recibe una copa como ofrenda, mientras unos *putti* alados flotan en la parte superior sosteniendo paños y cuencos. Sátiro / Elementos pastoriles:
Figuras pastoriles sentadas y recostadas (incluida la figura de un sátiro barbudo a la izquierda) anclan la escena en un entorno bucólico clásico. Madre e hijo:
Cerca del centro, una mujer sentada sostiene a un niño que recibe la atención de una figura contigua. Registro inferior heráldico u ornamental:
El pedestal arquitectónico inferior presenta un escudo coronado con tres flores de lis (las armas reales de Francia), enmarcado por una cartela decorativa y ramas de laurel, situado justo encima de la inscripción explicativa.

Central Subject: 
The composition illustrates a classical Bacchic or dionysian vintage scene (Vendanges à la manière des Anciens), replicating the composition of the famous antique carnelian intaglio known as the Cachet de Michel-Ange (Michelangelo's Seal).

Figures & Allegory:
Harvesting & Baskets: 
Multiple classical figures—several holding or carrying baskets of grapes balanced on their heads—signify the gathering of the vintage.

Offerings & Libations: 
A figure on horseback receives a goblet offering, while winged putti hover overhead holding drapery and bowls.

Satyr / Pastoral Elements: 
Seated and reclining pastoral figures (including a bearded satyr figure at the left) ground the classical bucolic setting.

Mother & Child: 
Near the center, a seated woman cradles a child receiving attention from an adjacent figure.

Heraldic / Ornamental Lower Register:
The lower architectural pedestal features a crowned coat of arms bearing three fleur-de-lis (the royal arms of France), framed by a decorative cartouche and laurels directly above the explanatory inscription.

Como curiosidad cabe destacar el retrato en grabado realizado a media tinta de Bernard Picart por su amigo el grabador y pintor Nicolaas Vercolje ( 1673 - 1746 ), dónde observamos en su mano izquierda un ejemplar del grabado de la serie Cornaline" 
      
We find the engraving in the series " Pierres Anriques Gravées tirees de Principaux Cabinets de la France ", Elisabeth - Sophie Cheron , 1728 "          
As a curiosity it is necessary to emphasize the portait in engraving realized to half ink of Bernard Picart by his friend  the engraver and painter Nicolas Vercolje ( 1673 - 1746 )), where we observe in his left hand  a copy  of the engraving of the series Cornaline.
