Paulus Fagius fue un Clérigo, Teólogo Protestante y Grabador de origen Hebreo, ferviente seguidor de Martin Lutero, su verdadero nombre era Paul Büchlein, estudio en la Universidad de Heidelberg, impartió enseñanzas de Hebreo y Caldeo en la Universidad de Malburgo y Estrasburgo, acérrimo opositor a Carlos V encontró refugio en la Universidad de Cambridge de la mano del Arzobispo de Canterbury Thomas Cranmer obteniendo la catedra de hebreo en dicha Universidad, murió posiblemente envenenado en 1549 a la edad de 45 años.

Paulus Fagius was a clergyman, Protestant theologian and engraver of Hebrew origin, fervent follower of Martin Luther, his real name was Paul Büchlein, studied at the University of Heidelberg, taught Hebrew and Chaldee at the University of Malburg and Strasbourg, A staunch opponent of Charles V, he found refuge at Cambridge University under the Archbishop of Canterbury Thomas Cranmer and was awarded the chair of Hebrew there. He died, possibly of poisoning, in 1549 at the age of 45.

Fagius aparece retratado de perfil, con una pose digna, típica de las colecciones de retratos humanistas de finales del siglo XVI y principios del XVII. Francisco Suárez de Toledo, Doctor Eximius et Pius, Jesuita, Teólogo, Filosofo y Jurista Español, fue uno de los máximos exponentes de la filosofía Escolástica del siglo XVI y de la escuela de Salamanca inscribiéndose dentro del contexto del siglo de oro Español, hombre culto y erudito dominaba a la perfección el Hebreo, el Griego, el Latín y el Árabe entre otros idiomas, proveniente dé una familia de Hidalgos Castellanos estudio Derecho Canónico en la Universidad de Salamanca e impartió enseñanzas de Teología y Filosofía en Salamanca, Valladolid, Segovia , Roma y Alcalá de Henares, por expreso deseo de Felipe II se traslado en 1595 a la universidad de Coímbra ocupando la Cátedra de Filosofía hasta su muerte ocurrida en Lisboa en 1616.

Francisco Suárez de Toledo, Doctor Eximius et Pius, Jesuit, Theologian, Philosopher and Spanish Jurist, was one of the maximum exponents of the Scholastic philosophy of the XVI century and of the school of Salamanca being inscribed within the context of the Spanish golden century, a cultured and erudite man who perfectly mastered Hebrew, Greek, Latin and Arabic among other languages, Coming from a family of Castilian noblemen, he studied Canon Law at the University of Salamanca and taught Theology and Philosophy in Salamanca, Valladolid, Segovia, Rome and Alcalá de Henares. At the express wish of Philip II, he moved to the University of Coimbra in 1595 and held the Chair of Philosophy until his death in Lisbon in 1616.
