Simon Forman fué un Medico, Astrólogo, mago y alquimista al servicio de la Reina Isabel I de Inglaterra (1558 - 1603 ).

Simon Formas was a physician, astrologer, magician and alchemist in the service of Queen Elizabeth Ion England  ( 1558 - 1603 )

ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY :

El retrato está realizado en un estilo retrospectivo y deliberadamente arcaico, acorde con su protagonista jacobino. Representa a Forman con su característica barba espesa, frente amplia y un sencillo y ancho cuello (con banda caída), típico de principios del siglo XVII.

Esta lámina en particular fue grabada para su publicación en antologías de antigüedades o series biográficas populares a finales de la década de 1770 (como las recopiladas por el propio Godfrey o publicadas junto con tratados históricos). La nitidez de la tipografía y el marcado borde de la lámina sugieren que se trata de una impresión bien conservada de la edición de 1776.

The portrait is executed in a retrospective, deliberately archaic style to match its Jacobean subject, depicting Forman with his characteristic thick beard, high forehead, and a plain, wide collar (falling band) typical of the early 17th century.

This specific plate was engraved for publication in antiquarian miscellanies or biographical series popular in the late 1770s (such as those compiled by Godfrey himself or published in conjunction with historical tracts). The crispness of the lettering and the distinct plate border suggest a well-preserved impression from the 1776 edition.
