Este lema en particular es muy característico de su programa iconográfico, ya que refleja sus ambiciones políticas y su alineación diplomática especialmente con Jacobo VI/I de Escocia e Inglaterra, quien compartía el mismo lema.
Vestimenta del retratado:
El duque aparece representado con la moda cortesana del Renacimiento tardío, luciendo una gorguera rígida y plisada (fraise) y un jubón ricamente brocado o bordado con cuello alto.
Insignias:
Lleva un prominente y pesado cuello de librea con eslabones estilizados alternados, que culmina en un colgante/medallón cerca de su mano derecha. Esta es la insignia de la Orden de la Jarretera, un hito fundamental en la vida y la iconografía de Federico. Fue elegido miembro de la orden por la reina Isabel I en 1597, aunque no fue investido formalmente hasta 1603 bajo el reinado de Jacobo I, un evento que celebró con gran entusiasmo.

This particular motto is very characteristic of his iconographic program, as it reflects his political ambitions and his diplomatic alignment, especially with James VI/I of Scotland and England, who shared the same motto.
The sitter's attire:
The duke is depicted in the courtly fashion of the late Renaissance, wearing a stiff, pleated ruff (fraise) and a richly brocaded or embroidered doublet with a high collar.
Insignia:
He wears a prominent, heavy livery collar with alternating stylized links, culminating in a pendant/medallion near his right hand. This is the insignia of the Order of the Garter, a pivotal event in Frederick's life and iconography. He was elected to the order by Queen Elizabeth I in 1597, though he was not formally invested until 1603 under the reign of James I, an event he celebrated with great enthusiasm.
Composition:
The three-quarter view, the cross-hatched background creating depth within the oval, and the meticulous depiction of the textiles all point directly to the style of the Northern European masters active around 1600.
