Asunción de María es una creencia de las iglesias Cristianas donde el cuerpo y el alma de la Virgen María subieron al cielo luego de acabar sus días en la tierra.
Assumption of Mary is a belief of the Christian churches that the body and soul of the Virgin Mary ascended to heaven after finishing her days on earth.
ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY
La composición representa la Asunción de la Virgen María (o la Apoteosis/Glorificación de una santa o alma femenina). La figura central aparece en pleno movimiento, ascendiendo al Cielo sentada o recostada sobre una nube. Sus brazos están extendidos en actitud de oración, éxtasis y entrega, con la mirada fija en un resplandor divino o halo que se abre paso entre densas nubes de tormenta. Está sostenida y acompañada por varios querubines alados (putti) y un ángel a su izquierda que sostiene su manto ondeante.
The composition represents the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (or an Apotheosis/Glorification of a female saint or soul). The central figure is depicted in full motion, ascending to Heaven while seated or resting upon a cloud. Her arms are outstretched in an attitude of prayer, ecstasy, and surrender, with her gaze directed upward toward a divine radiance or halo breaking through heavy storm clouds. She is supported and accompanied by several winged cherubs (putti) and an accompanying angel on the left who holds her flowing mantle.
