ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY
Vestimenta y postura:

Habit and Posture:
The subject is clothed in the coarse, hooded habit of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, complete with a long beard typifying the reformed Franciscan movement. His hands are crossed over his breast (passio posture), signaling profound personal humility, interior devotion, and submission to divine will.

Bookshelf Background (Scrinium):
The library backdrop behind the subject directly symbolizes theological erudition, scholarly composition, and his esteemed status as an official papal preacher.

Refusal of the Red Hat:
The composition purposefully pairs academic scholarly attributes with a posture of pious reserve to reinforce the textual claim that he humbly rejected the cardinalate (ad Romanam Purpuram designatus refugiens).

Heraldic Shield:
Located at the lower apex of the oval frame, the coat of arms displays the noble Lomellini family crest (three trefoils/clover leaves beneath a chief), affirming his patrician Genoese origins before taking religious vows.

Framing Architecture:
Encased within a trompe-l'œil stone architectural niche with an oval garland-topped medallion, a visual convention used in 17th- and 18th-century portraiture to denote posthumous veneration and historical importance.
