Iohannes Beuckel von Leyden , fue un lider religioso y teólogo del movimiento anabaptista Holandés de la ciudad de Münster proclamandose rey de Nueva Jerusalén,expulso a los católicos de la ciudad y confisco todas sus propiedades, el principe obispo de Múnster, Osnasbrück y Minden  Franz von Waldeck al mando de un ejercito católico sitio la ciudad, derrotando el ejercito de Von Leyden, este falleció ejecutado delante de la iglesia de San Lamberto donde sus restos fueron expuestos por un periodo de 50 años.

  • Sostiene un cetro real sobre su brazo izquierdo y porta una elaborada cadena al cuello de la que pende precisamente su emblema del orbe. Viste ropas de alta nobleza con un sombrero ornamentado y gorguera, reflejando el lujo con el que se rodeó durante su efímero y tiránico reinado en la ciudad sitiada.

  • En su mano derecha sostiene un pergamino enrollado (un detalle que en el grabado original solía incluir las letras "DEF", en alusión a las leyes y decretos de su orden) y sujeta firmemente un libro, enfatizando su rol de profeta y legislador religioso.

  • The shield and emblem (top left):

    It displays the coat of arms that Jan van Leyden adopted as "King of Münster": a globe (the imperial orb) pierced centrally by a cross and diagonally by two crossed swords (Gladius spiritus and Gladius vindictae), symbolizing his purported universal theocratic dominion and divine/earthly justice.
    Royal attributes and attire:
    He holds a royal scepter over his left arm and wears an elaborate chain around his neck from which hangs his orb emblem. He wears high nobility robes with an ornate hat and ruff, reflecting the luxury with which he surrounded himself during his ephemeral and tyrannical reign in the besieged city.
     Elements in his hands:
    In his right hand he holds a rolled-up scroll (a detail that in the original engraving often included the letters "DEF," alluding to the laws and decrees of his order) and firmly grasps a book, emphasizing his role as prophet and religious legislator.

OBSERVACIONES / OBSERVATIONS :

Esta estampa en particular, por la tipografía limpia de la inscripción inferior (IOHANNES BEUCKEL VON LEYDEN) en caracteres latinos en lugar de las largas filacterias alemanas o latinas que envolvían los bordes de la plancha original del siglo XVI, parece corresponder a una fiel reedición o copia grabada posterior siglos XVII en compendios de retratos históricos o de personajes singulares de la Reforma y sus variantes extremas.

This particular print, due to the clean typography of the lower inscription (IOHANNES BEUCKEL VON LEYDEN) in Latin characters instead of the long German or Latin scrolls that wrapped around the edges of the original 16th-century plate, appears to correspond to a faithful reissue or later engraved copy from the 17th century in compendiums of historical portraits or of singular figures of the Reformation and its extreme variants.
