Juan II, XVIII Conde de Holanda (también conocido como Juan II de Avesnes, c. 1247–1304).

Representación:

Aunque vivió durante los siglos XIII y XIV, el retrato utiliza un atuendo anacrónico e idealizado de estilo renacentista, típico de series retrospectivas posteriores. Se le muestra con cabello largo y ondulado, bigote y barba prominentes, un elaborado sombrero de ala ancha plisado, un cuello tipo gorguera y prendas de damasco/brocado ricamente bordadas con un prominente medallón floral colgante.

Heráldica:

El escudo de armas que centra la placa de inscripción inferior representa al Conde de Holanda y Henao cuartelado: leones rampantes (el escudo tradicional de Flandes/Henao y Holanda)

Depiction:

Although he lived during the 13th and 14th centuries, the portrait utilizes an anachronistic, idealized Renaissance-style costume typical of later retrospective series. He is shown with long wavy hair, a prominent mustache and beard, wearing an elaborate wide-brimmed pleated hat, a ruff-like collar, and heavily embroidered damask/brocade garments featuring a prominent floral medallion pendant.

Heraldry:

The coat of arms centering the lower inscription tablet represents the Count of Holland and Hainaut quarterly: lions rampant (the traditional arms of Flanders/Hainaut and Holland).

Scriverius fue un célebre historiador y coleccionista holandés del siglo XVII que poseía o documentó los retratos e iconografía original de los antiguos condes de Holanda. Los grabadores franceses del siglo XVIII, como Flipart, reutilizaron y adaptaron estos modelos históricos neerlandeses para ediciones ilustradas de gran calidad.

Scriverius was a renowned 17th-century Dutch historian and collector who owned or documented the portraits and original iconography of the former Counts of Holland. Eighteenth-century French engravers, such as Flipart, reused and adapted these historical Dutch models for high-quality illustrated editions.

La publicación  de la obra Galerie du Musée  Napoleón fue un importante catalogo  del Louvre ilustrado de forma lujosa durante la época Napoleónica entre los años 1805 y 1810 por Antoine Filhol , durante la cual el Louvre fue conocido como Galerie Musée  Napoleón , enriquecido con los diferentes botines de guerra se convirtió en el mejor museo del mundo , algunos de sus nuevos fondos fueron repatriados tras el tratado de Viena de 1815, dejando la presente obra como testimonio de su breve apogeo, sus grabados fueron realizados por los  mas ilustres e importantes artistas de la Francia del momento.

The publication of the work Galerie du Musée Napoleon was an important catalog of the Louvre lavishly illustrated during the Napoleonic era between 1805 and 1810 by Antoine Filhol, during which the Louvre was known as Galerie Musée Napoleon, Enriched with the various spoils of war it became the best museum in the worl d some of its new collections were repatriated after the Treaty of Vienna in 1815, leaving the present work as a testimony of its brief heyday, its engravings were made by the most illustrious and important artists of France at the time.
