ROBERT DUDLEY ( 1532/34 - 1588 )
Robert Dudley Conde de Leicester, Barón de Denbig, Caballero de la orden de la Jarretera, Miembro del Parlamento por Norfolck y Lord Teniente de Éssex ( 1585 a 1588 ) fue un intrigante personaje en la corte de Isabel I de Inglaterra, favorito de la reina, su primera esposa Amy Robsart falleció al rodar por las escaleras en 1560 quedando libre para casarse con la reina, a pesar de que el jurado determinó que fue un accidente resulto tal la magnitud del escándalo y los rumores que había arreglado la muerte de su esposa que redujeron mucho sus posibilidades al respecto, en 1578 se casó en segundas nupcias con Lettice Knollis que fue apartada de la corte casi de inmediato, nombrado en 1585 comandante a una expedición a los Paises Bajos Españoles, este fue vencido en Grave, Venlo y Esclusa por los ejércitos del Gobernador de los Paises Bajos Alejandro Farnesio.
Reconciliado con la reina por la desastrosa campaña militar le nombró lugarteniente general para luchar contra la desdichada Armada Invencible, murió poco después el 4 de septiembre de 1588.
Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, Baron of Denbigh, Knight of the Order of the Garter, Member of Parliament for Norfolk and Lord Lieutenant of Essex (1585 to 1588), he was a scheming figure at the court of Elizabeth I of England and a favourite of the Queen. His first wife, Amy Robsart, died after falling down the stairs in 1560, leaving him free to marry the Queen; although the jury ruled it was an accident, the scale of the scandal and the rumours that he had arranged his wife’s death were such that they greatly reduced his chances in that regard, In 1578, he married Lettice Knollis in his second marriage; she was removed from court almost immediately. In 1585, he was appointed commander of an expedition to the Spanish Netherlands, but was defeated at Grave, Venlo and Esclusa by the armies of the Governor of the Netherlands, Alessandro Farnese.
Reconciled with the Queen following the disastrous military campaign, he was appointed Lieutenant General to fight against the ill-fated Spanish Armada; he died shortly afterwards on 4 September 1588.

Cadenas e insignias:
El pesado collar/cadena visible sobre su pecho denota un alto cargo y el favor real, probablemente representando su condición de Caballero de la Orden de la Jarretera o su nombramiento como Gobernador General.
Enmarcado con medallón ovalado:
Enmarcar al retratado dentro de un marco ovalado con inscripciones en latín, apoyado sobre una repisa arquitectónica, era una convención visual estándar del Renacimiento utilizada para conferir dignidad clásica, autoridad y permanencia histórica.
Ruff and Doublet:
The high-starched, intricately patterned lace ruff paired with a decorated doublet signifies high status, courtly sophistication, and the peak of late Elizabethan fashion.
Feathered Cap:
Adorned with a jewels/jeweled brooch (enseigne), the bonnet accentuates his military status and rank within the English nobility.
Chains and Regalia:
The heavy collar/chain visible across his chest denotes high office and royal favor—most likely representing his status as a Knight of the Order of the Garter or his appointment as Governor-General.
Oval Medallion Framing:
Framing the sitter within a Latin-inscribed oval frame resting on an architectural ledge was a standard Renaissance visual convention used to confer classical dignity, authority, and historical permanence.

Publicado en La Haya alrededor de 1618 por Hans (Hendrik) Jacobsen (H. Iacobsen exc.). Se grabaron láminas de este tipo y diseño para importantes crónicas históricas del Renacimiento nórdico, sobre todo como ilustraciones de libros en ediciones francesas y holandesas de la Historia Belgica (o Nederlandsche Historie) de Emanuel van Meteren.
Published in The Hague around 1618 by Hans (Hendrik) Jacobsen (H. Iacobsen exc.). Prints of this specific type and layout were engraved for major Northern Renaissance historical chronicles, most notably as book illustrations in French and Dutch editions of Emanuel van Meteren’s Historia Belgica (or Nederlandsche Historie).
