DISSIMILUM INFIDA SOCIETAS: 18th century engraving

Dissimillum Infida Societas (An unjust and unequal society) was the slogan used in the 16th and 17th century by an important Venetian printing house, the Sessa family, using a curious typographic mark representing a cat with a mouse in its mouth. Once the publishing house disappeared in the mid-17th century, several Venetian publishing houses appropriated the slogan Dissimillum Infida Societas.

Paris of Troy:
Seated on the far left beneath a tree, dressed in pastoral attire and holding a shepherd's crook, in the act of holding out the Golden Apple of Discord.

Venus (Aphrodite):
Positioned centrally to receive the apple. She is accompanied by Cupid (Eros), who reaches up at her feet, signaling her victory in claiming the prize for the most beautiful goddess.

Minerva (Athena):
Standing next to Venus, clearly identified by her military attributes—a crested warrior's helmet, a spear, and a shield.

Juno (Hera):
Positioned on the right side of the main trio; her identity is reinforced by the peacock visible perched on the stone ledge beside her.

Setting & Frame:
The foreground features a classical pastoral landscape with a distant cityscape. The upper portion is framed by draped theatrical curtains enclosing a Baroque scrollwork cartouche (frontispice-cartouche) containing the volume's title.
