                           HENRI IV ROI DE FRANCE  (  1553 - 1610 )     

Enrique IV de Francia y III de Navarra fué el primer rey Francés de la casa de Borbón, conocido como Enrique el Grande, Duque de Borbón y Vendome entre 1562 y 1589, Coprincipe de Andorra y Rey de Navarra ( 1572 - 1610 ), Conde de Foix, de Bigorra y Vizconde de Bearne ( 1572 a 1510 ) y Rey de Francia entre 1589 y 1610, murió asesinado en la ciudad de París a la edad de 56 años.

Henry IV of France and III of Navarre was the first French king of the house of Bourbon, known as Henry the Great, Duke of Bourbon and Vendome between 1562 and 1589, Co-Prince of Andorra and King of Navarre ( 1572 - 1610 ), Count of Foix, Bigorra and Viscount of Bearne ( 1572 to 1510 ) and King of France between 1589 and 1610, died murdered in the city of Paris at the age of 56.

El rey aparece representado de tres cuartos, con un sombrero de copa alta adornado con una pluma, una gorguera almidonada, una coraza decorada y una faja. Este tipo de retrato se inspira en gran medida en los famosos retratos en vida realizados por artistas como Thomas de Leu o Frans Pourbus el Joven, aunque aquí se presenta con un estilo de enmarcado barroco posterior.

The king is depicted in three-quarter view, wearing a high-crowned hat with a feather plume, a starched ruff (fraise), a decorated cuirass (armor), and a sash. This portrait type derives heavily from the famous lifetime likenesses captured by artists like Thomas de Leu or Frans Pourbus the Younger, though re-engraved here in a later baroque framing style.

Bernard Duc de Saxe Weymar fue un principe Alemán de la casa de Wettin Duque de Sajonia-Weymar y militar Alemán participó activamente en diversas batallas en la guerra de los treinta años.

Bernard Duc de Saxe Weymar, was a German prince of the house of wetting Duke of Saxe- Weymar and a German military officer who actively participated in several battles in the Thirty year's war.

ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPHY :

Ficquet grabó esta obra basándose en un prototipo anterior del siglo XVII, muy probablemente derivado de un retrato de Anthony van Dyck o de algún contemporáneo que estuviera activo durante las campañas de la Guerra de los Treinta Años, y que posteriormente se popularizó a través de la Iconografía o de los grabados de Matthäus Merian.

Ficquet engraved this based on an earlier 17th-century prototype—most likely derived from a portrait by Anthony van Dyck or a contemporary active during the Thirty Years' War campaigns, later popularized via the Iconography or Matthäus Merian's prints.

ICONOGRAFÍA / ICONOGRAPĤY :

Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon. Se le representa de tres cuartos, mirando al frente, enmarcado en un elegante marco ovalado de piedra o madera, ricamente decorado. Viste una peluca empolvada tradicional de mediados del siglo XVIII (perruque), una túnica con cuello de armiño ribeteado de piel o moteado, y un chaleco abotonado, lo que refleja su estatus como miembro distinguido de la Academia Francesa.

Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon. He is shown in a three-quarter view facing forward, framed within an elegant, heavily decorated oval stone or wooden frame. He wears a traditional mid-18th-century powdered wig (perruque), a fur-trimmed or spotted ermine collar robe, and a buttoned vest, reflecting his status as an esteemed member of the Académie française.

Prosper Joliot de Crebillon fué un dramaturgo Francés, autor de diversas obras, entre 1731 y 1762 ocupo el sillón 13 de la Académia Francesa de las Letras, en 1735 fue nombrado censor real de Louis XV.

Prosper Joliot de Crebillon was a french playwright, author of several plays, between 1731 and 1762 he occupied the 13 seat of The French Academy of Letters, in 1735 he was appointed royal censor of Louis XV

• Se le retrata de busto, girado tres cuartos hacia la derecha, ataviado con una armadura de la época y sosteniendo una espada firmemente con su mano derecha. Alrededor de su cuello luce la característica gorguera de lechuguilla y sobre el pecho cuelga la cruz de la Orden del Santo Espíritu (Ordre du Saint-Esprit), la orden de caballería más prestigiosa de la monarquía francesa.

• He is portrayed in bust form, turned three-quarters to the right, dressed in period armor and holding a sword firmly in his right hand. Around his neck he wears the characteristic ruff, and on his chest hangs the cross of the Order of the Holy Spirit (Ordre du Saint-Esprit), the most prestigious order of chivalry of the French monarchy.

Este tipo de retratos calcográficos del monarca (realizados habitualmente mediante la técnica de buril o grabado a talla dulce sobre cobre) proliferaron enormemente a finales del siglo XVI y principios del XVII (c. 1595–1610), tanto para celebrar su consolidación en el trono tras las Guerras de Religión en Francia como de manera póstuma tras su asesinato en 1610.

These types of copperplate portraits of the monarch (usually made using the burin or intaglio engraving technique on copper) proliferated enormously at the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th centuries (c. 1595–1610), both to celebrate his consolidation on the throne after the Wars of Religion in France and posthumously after his assassination in 1610.
