Este grabado es una magnífica estampa calcográfica alemana de finales del siglo XVII o principios del siglo XVIII, vinculada a destacados maestros de la escuela de Augsburgo (indicado por las letras A.V. al final de la inscripción, que corresponden a Augusta Vindelicorum, el nombre en latín de dicha ciudad).
This engraving is a magnificent German chalcographic print from the late 17th or early 18th century, associated with leading masters of the Augsburg school (as indicated by the letters A.V. at the end of the inscription, which stand for Augusta Vindelicorum, the Latin name for that city).

Georg Philipp Rugendas I (1666–1742) fue un pintor y grabador célebre por sus detalladas escenas de batallas, jinetes, caballos y campamentos militares. El término "inv. et fec." (invenit et fecit) significa que él ideó la escena y la grabó. No obstante, las investigaciones catalogográficas (como las conservadas en instituciones como el Museo Británico) sugieren que en la apertura definitiva de las planchas de esta serie también intervino el grabador Georg Conrad Bodenehr.
Georg Philipp Rugendas I (1666–1742) was a painter and engraver renowned for his detailed scenes of battles, horsemen, horses and military encampments. The term ‘inv. et fec.’ (invenit et fecit) means that he conceived the scene and engraved it. However, catalogue research (such as that held by institutions like the British Museum) suggests that the engraver Georg Conrad Bodenehr was also involved in the final engraving of the plates in this series.

Esta pieza pertenece a una conocida serie titulada Reiter und Gefechte (Jinetes y combates). Concretamente, se trata de la Plancha número 4 de la serie, que muestra a un grupo de cuatro jinetes bajo la copa de un gran árbol, donde el personaje principal en primer plano realiza un gesto con el brazo izquierdo señalando hacia la lejanía.
La mención de Ridinger como editor del grabado confirma que se trata del segundo estado de la plancha, impreso tiempo después de que la serie original fuera concebida por el taller de Rugendas, cuando Ridinger adquirió o heredó las planchas de cobre originales para seguir comercializando las estampas debido a su alta calidad técnica y gran demanda entre los coleccionistas de temas ecuestres de la época.
This piece belongs to a well-known series entitled *Reiter und Gefechte* (Horsemen and Battles). Specifically, it is Plate No. 4 in the series, depicting a group of four horsemen beneath the canopy of a large tree, with the main figure in the foreground gesturing with his left arm towards the distance.
The mention of Ridinger as the publisher of the engraving confirms that this is the second state of the plate, printed some time after the original series was conceived by Rugendas’ workshop, when Ridinger acquired or inherited the original copper plates in order to continue marketing the prints due to their high technical quality and great demand amongst collectors of equestrian subjects of the time.
